More About Scottie

Butterscotch Gotcha A Lil' Joy ('Scottie') is a purebred collie born 7/11/08.  He has been in foster care since November, and it has been determined that he will always be a little shy outside of his element.  For that reason, he needs a fenced yard, and another doggie companion as well as owners that are not gone away from home a lot.

Scottie is housetrained (crate-trained) and lives with a cat.  He is a typical 9 month old in that he is into everything and needs supervision in the house and yard.  He needs lots of exercise (he stays calmer in the house that way,) so a large yard would be preferable, and another dog to play and run with would be good.

He is not good on a leash outside of his yard, although he did graduate from an 8 week obedience class.  Walks would have to be something that an adopter would need to work at in order for him to achieve the confidence he needs to be able to do this.  He is food motivated, however, so that will make training a little easier.  He definitely needs some confidence building.

Being highly food motivated, Scottie needs continued work on taking treats gently from your hand.  He also likes toys and will jump up and try to grab them from your hand.  He needs more work on these things because he needs to understand that teeth, no matter how gentle, are unacceptable.  For these reasons, Scottie would not do well in a home with small children or younger children who are not dog savvy.  In MOST situations, he is very good, but because of his eventual size and herding instincts, he should not be with children unsupervised until he learns more.

With all those challanges, a dog savvy adopter is needed.  The one reward that outshines all of Scottie's challanges is his wonderful, sweet, loving collie nature.  In his home and yard, he is sweet as can be, and a lot of silly fun.  He plays well with all the dogs here, and sleeps in his foster mom's arms.

Scottie is up to date on shots, neutered, microchipped and housebroken.  He is still quite shy and not always good at recall.  He may be good at a dog park, because he gets along well with other dogs, but he needs more work on recall before he is let loose on a lot of acres (even if they are fenced in.)

If you think that Scottie is a challenge that you are willing to take on and the addition to your family that you've been waiting for, please email doremidoggies@aol.com for an application.  A vet reference is required as well as a home visit.  Fenced yard only.  Must have dog experience and a vet reference.  Scottie is being fostered in Independence, KS, and you must travel here to meet and adopt him.

Home without children (< 5 yrs old)

Scottie is up-to-date with routine shots, house trained and spayed/neutered.
