More About Mystic
Mystic is a 3 year old solid black 74 lb. female who has now been given the 'all clear' from her orthopedic vet, Dr. Milton. She's eager to be adopted into her forever family. Mystic loves people, including children and likes nothing better than to be close to her person. She is basically housetrained but does not care for being crated. *Mystic has storm phobia that requires medication prior to a storm. It is imperative that she not be left outside if there is a chance of bad weather.
Mystic was rescued by GSRCA in March, 2009. Her former owner allowed her to be hit by a car and failed to do anything about her severely broken leg, then proceeded to give her away. Mystic was taken by a kind person who did take her to a vet but was unable to afford the care she needed. If GSRCA had not taken Mystic into rescue, she would have been put down. The surgery was performed by Dr. Milton in Birmingham. He told us that Mystic had the worst kind of fracture one could have, a 't' fracture. The only choices were amputation or arthrodesis (bone fusion with plating). After hearing the pros and cons of each surgery, GSRCA decided the fusion would be best for Mystic in the long run. She had her surgery on March 31st, just 3 days after coming to GSRCA. The cost of her surgery was nearly $1800 and thanks to many generous contributors GSRCA was able to give her the care she needed. Mystic bears some weight on the affected leg and does not let this slow her down much. She is as strong as an ox, in fact!As with most all GSRCA adoptions, this dog would benefit from obedience training. Mystic rides well in the car but needs to avoid meals before traveling because of motion sickness.
