More About Annie-Adopted
UPDATE 7/25/09: Annie is our last mommy dog looking for a home... and sadly she was the first out of the five to arrive. Annie is a VERY good girl and is our first pick for an only pet home. She just adores people and would do well in any family where she's the only pet. She has lived with dogs while in rescue, and does fine with it... but we can tell she'd rather be the only princess in her family.
FYI: All dogs are located in Williamston, MI (which is near Lansing, MI) unless stated otherwise at the top of their petfinder listing. We get dogs from all over the country, so we like to list where they came from as their hometown.
NOTE: We are looking for separate homes for Annie and her puppies.
UPDATE 4/26/09: Annie has undergone her heartworm treatment and is totally healthy (well, in reality, she never acted sick!). She is a total housedog and really wants a family of her own. If you are able to give this girl a loving home, she will return the favor with a lifetime of love. She is our first pick for a phenomenal only dog home... she really doesn't want to share her new family with another dog or cat. She does fine with the other dogs at our place, but we can tell she'd rather be the princess of the house.
UPDATE 3/15/09: Annie underwent her heartworm treatment on 3/13 and 3/14/09. She did great with it. She now needs to be kept quiet for the next 30 days, which we are doing at our house. After that, she'll just get one dose of Ivermectin (an oral medication which is like getting a big dose of Heartgard), and then she'll have to be kept very quiet for 48 hours. If Annie is adopted now, she can go to her new home if her adoptive family is able and willing to keep her quiet.
Name: Annie Oakley (Mother of the Cowboys – Slim Pickens and Roy Rogers)
Breed: English Pointer
Size: 35 lbs
Color: Liver and White
Age: 2 years old
Hometown: Westland, Michigan
Date arrived at Pointers From Oz: January 26, 2009
More pictures: To see all of the pictures we have of Annie, please click on the Pointers From Oz link on this page. Annie will be listed as both a Pointer and an English Pointer with different pictures on each listing.
Her story: Annie was dumped in a Detroit park with her litter of puppies. Some workers in the area took home all of her puppies except for Slim. They turned Annie and Slim into the Michigan Humane Society in Westland where I work. Annie turned out to be heartworm positive, so we took her and Slim into our rescue program. A few days after we got them, Roy showed up… so we took him in too.
Her personality: Annie is sweet, friendly, and very people oriented. She really wants to belong to a person or family. She is energetic outside, but settles down fine in the house. She loves people and is very gentle, and likes to follow you around. We really love this girl.
Other dogs: Annie is good with other dogs.
Cats: Annie failed her kitty test... she acted like our cat was an alien across the room! She just wasn't so sure about him, and was growling, so no kitties for her. Most Pointers are good with cats, but some like to point or bark at them, so we like to screen for that.
Kids: Annie would be a good choice if you have older kids.
Housetraining: Annie is housetrained and crate trained (she took right to it).
Fencing Needs: Annie would do well with a standard or invisible fence.
Hunting Potential: We are not looking for a hunting home for Annie due to her heartworm status (she should lead a totally normal, healthy dog life though). Remember, our first priority is to find our foster dogs wonderful homes. Birddogs could care less if they go hunting or not, they just want plenty of outdoor time and families that love them. The vast majority of the dogs we adopt go to pet homes, where they are happy to chase and point bug, butterflies, and songbirds. Only about 1% go to hunting homes (where they are still spoiled family members).
Vet Stuff: Annie has been updated on vaccines and spayed. She tested heartworm positive so will be treated for heartworm in mid to late February. Like all of our foster dogs, she is current on flea and heartworm preventative.
Adoption Fee: Please click on the Pointers From Oz link on the right of this page for information about our adoption fees.
