More About Logan
*** UPDATE: Logan Wins ***
Logan's a winner! Logan has just won a consultation with Victoria Stilwell, star/trainer of It's Me or the Dog, showing on Animal Planet. We're so excited for him!
What does this mean? Logan and his foster mom will be consulting with Victoria to put together a training plan so he can gain confidence and learn that he needn't nip at strangers.
PLUS: Logan's adopter ALSO gets a consultation. Now, we just need to find Logan a home! Won't you open your heart to this big boy? He's really a fabulous dog, we swear!
*** SPECIAL PLACEMENT ***
Logan had a bad start in life, beaten as a young pup by his male owner. Now, only a little over a year old, Logan needs a very special home. His foster mom and dad absolutely LOVE him. Once he trusts you (and it doesn't take long), he is just one big Goober Dog.
We can't stress what a GREAT dog Logan is. But total strangers make him nervous, especially men. He has a tendency to preemptively 'nip' to have people back off. Also, if he thinks you are going to hurt him (clip nails, examine a sore spot), he'll nip at you to have you back off. He doesn't like baths, either, and he'll let you know it. His foster mom and dad have found ways to 'trick' him in order to get him cleaned up or do his flea treatment, or look in his ears. They make a game of it, and also keep a ball in Logan's mouth (so he can't nip even if he wanted). Besides, Logan seems to like his balls about as much as he likes roast beef treats.
But if Logan could only trust the world around him and gain confidence, he'd be doggone near perfect!
We are looking for a calm situation for Logan, where he won't be expected to get out in public or deal with strangers coming and going. He just wants to be a stay-at-home dog.
Logan also must first be introduced slowly to other dogs, though he gets along with the resident dogs (8 in all, believe it or not) with one exception: our big male lead German Shepherd who is also dog-reactive, especially with adult males. We usually let Logan get used to the presence of another dog while still confined to his crate or another room. After a few days, we can generally supervise a face-to-face introduction. But once Logan has been successfully introduced, he's absolutely fine with his doggie mates.
As for cats: Logan managed to bulldoze his way into the cat foster room the other day, and he seemed ok except there was some behavior that made us think that he might want to chase the cats as a form of play. We think he would eventually be ok with cats, but this would probably take some time, and it would be better with a single cat instead of 8-12 of them, like in our kitty foster room! Far too tempting for all but the most cat-friendly dog!
The perfectly ideal home for Logan would be one without kids and perhaps in a rural setting. Logan's favorite place to be is inside with the people, but he also loves lounging in the hay and hanging out in the garage or pole barn. He's content to spend hours doing this. When he's indoors, his favorite perch is at the top of the stairs, lounging and looking down at everyone!
If you don't mind a dog that just wants to be with his people, and you will shelter him from the things he fears, you won't find a better dog in the world. He's funny, loving to a fault, and a real snuggle-bunny.
This is why Logan needs someone very special. And we will reduce or even waive his adoption fee for that special someone.
Logan is neutered, housetrained, crate-trained, and up-to-date on his vaccinations.
