More About Missy - PENDING

It looks like Missy will be adopted by her foster mom!

UPDATE: Missy is doing very well in foster care. She's shed some much-needed weight, her hair is growing in, and she allows her caregiver to pick her up and snuggle. Look how beautiful she is! Now that Missy has adjusted to life outside the puppymill, we will be working on getting her better socialized outside her foster home by introducing her to other dogs, people, kids and situations. Check back for further updates.

Missy is a purebred female Miniature Schnauzer who came into rescue from a puppymill. She is a petite 4-year-old who was extremely overweight. Her foster mom was diligent about watching her food intake, and she's now down to a healthy size. Missy is very food oriented, which has helped with her training, but should remain on a diet of healthy, low-fat food and treats to maintain her weight.

Missy is dark salt & pepper in color with natural ears and a docked tail. She is very people-shy, although she loves other dogs. (You can see how she likes to hide behind another dog when getting her picture taken!) She is making good progress toward being housetrained. She can be a little bit on the feisty side and puts up a fight when her foster mom wants to pick her up to take her out. A small fenced-in area would be a great help in housetraining her. Her adopter must have the right mix of nurture and gentle discipline.

Missy is friendly with other dogs and needs a home with another, well-socialized dog. She takes her cues from other dogs and her socialization would be easier if she was guided by a resident dog. Missy enjoys looking at her reflection in a mirror and actually retreats to the mirror when scared or insecure.

Missy has received all her vaccinations. She will be vet checked, spayed, heartworm and brucellosis tested, have a urinalysis done, and receive a dental cleaning (if needed) prior to placement. Please consider taking this shy little flower into your home and heart so you can watch her blossom!

If you are interested in adopting Missy, you must first complete our adoption application, which is available on-line at http://www.njsrn.org/adoption.html.
