More About Janie

Janie is a 2-3 year old sable cocker female. She is very sweet natured. She came into our rescue program when a local person found her running loose in an apartment complex. We have only had this dog a few weeks, but we had her spayed, vaccinated and a cherry eye repair was done. Her adoption fee is $150.

IMPORTANT CALL FOR ASSISTANCE: We noted a cataract in one of Janie's eyes. In a short period of time, Janie started having distance problems with her vision and was bumping into things. Not only does she have cataracts in both eyes, but they are rapidly becoming more of a vision deterrent. The veterinary ophthalmologist has diagnosed her with hereditary juvenile cataracts. The success rate for treatment with surgery is 95%. Janie has a willing foster mom who can comply with the need for post op care. The bill, even with rescue discount, is $2000 for both eyes. Janie is a young dog and the investment of surgery now will have great benefit over her life span.

We adopt dogs from Memphis Animal Shelter when we can. The shelter has an 83% euthanasia rate, one of the highest in the country. Unfortunately, any dog coming from Memphis Animal Shelter, and most other shelters for that matter, will have been in contact with contagious illness. Even though the dogs have been in foster care and appear to be in good health, they may become stressed when changing environments and exhibit signs and symptoms of illness. If you have other pets, they need to be up to date on vaccines before bringing a shelter dog into your home. We will take the adopted animal back, but we are not responsible for your other animal's vet care. We always disclose where the dogs have come from. Please ask for any information about the dogs and exercise due caution if you have immunocompromised animals.

Janie is up-to-date with routine shots and spayed/neutered.
