More About Sir Henry
No one knows for sure how this incredibly gorgeous Chow Chow came to live with a feral cat colony. But he resided comfortably among them for several months, making casual friends with all who came to feed them. He charmed everyone with his smile, his obvious intelligence and his teasing nature. He would literally eat of of the hand of those who visited him regularly but would swiftly move out of reach with any attempt to pet or catch him.
Henry soon became a local attraction and as his public grew, so did his interest in exploring new, dangerous territory. His adventures struck fear for his safety among his followers and harsh weather was quickly approaching.
With the help of the Baltimore County Animal Control, he was finally rescued as he ventured onto the busy Beltway. A sigh of relief could be heard throughout his Kingdom when it was declared he was safe and would be released to McWag Rescue.
We are very grateful to everyone who helped care for this boy and wanted him out of harms way. He is a young lad, less that a year old. He is remarkably well and fit, although does have entropion of both lower lids which will require treatment and possible surgery. While he still is very escape oriented, he also loves to cuddle and be petted. He needs to become comfortable on the lead and become more confident around people. He seems to love other animals and can be very playful.
Henry is currently at a kennel working on socialization. What he really needs is a special foster who will continue with his rehabilitation to civilization . Henry will be neutered within a couple of weeks and we are accepting applications, however, we do require someone experienced with Chow Chows and/or experienced in building trust and confidence.
UPDATE: Sir Henry has had more medical issues than originally thought and has been treated for bacterial infections and skin problems. In addition to his neuter, he has also had surgery to correct bilateral entropion eyelids and had a growth removed from under his tongue which thankfully was benign and probably scar tissue from a previous injury. He has also had surgical repair of a torn cruciate ligament and his recovery has been slow. He is being boarded at the Vet where he has come to trust a wonderful Vet tech enough to let her manipulate his leg to facilitate movement. He gets visits from those involved with his rescue and enjoys having people sit on the floor with him, speaking and offering treats. He is an extremely sweet natured boy who really doesn’t understand why all this is happening. His greatest comfort is when they let the Animal Hospital resident cats in the room to curl up with him.
Henry is now in foster care, loving life and running with his foster Chow brother and playing with his feline foster siblings.
Sir Henry is up-to-date with routine shots and spayed/neutered.
