More About Rhett & Remy

Meet Remy and Rhett, two practically identical brothers who narrowly beat going to the kill shelter! Their owner let their family vet know that these guys were about to go to the local kill shelter -- and the vet knew that exotics were euthanized there because there was no space! The kind vet contacted one of our volunteers, and we arranged a transport for them.

Remy, on the left, is the braver of the two piggies, and Rhett is happy to follow his lead. Both are pretty scared right now from their big trip, but they've already shown signs of warming up to vegetables and friendly words.

So how do you tell these beautiful boys apart? Remy has a torn ear from long ago, which makes for a handy identifier. These boys are so alike they even weight the same!

Adoption fees are $40 for a single guinea pig, and $70 per bonded pair. Guinea pigs listed together are considered “bonded pairs” and will not be separated. Adoption fees include preventative parasite treatment, thorough dental exam, vet exam, and bonding assistance.

For information on guinea pig care, please check out our care guide located here. For additional information, please check out GuineaLynx and GuineaPigCages.

If you are a parent interested in adopting guinea pigs for your children, please read Cavy Spirit’s page on cavies and kids. Many of the animals in our program are discarded children's pets. Our goal is to make every adoption a forever home!

Please see our adoption policies and procedures here. We require all potential adopters to fill out an adoption application and sign a contract if approved. We perform a vet check, home visit, and landlord check (if you rent) as part of the screening process.

The application is available here for online completion, or may be downloaded in MS-Word format here.

We also recommend that you check your local animal shelter for guinea pigs. They need adoptive homes just as much as, if not more, than the ones with ACR&S!
