Chicken

Hilary is one spunky girl. She is an adult Thai hen, probably hatched in ‘04. She is our 456th rescue with gorgeous rich smoky gray feathers with lacy black edging and an adorable little hat . She weighs about 5 lbs. and is tall, muscular, graceful, quiet and confident. She likely was used for breeding among a large group of birds seized in a cruelty / cockfighting bust.

She is sociable with us and eager to be held. She has a hearty appetite and will come running for almost any treat offered- favorite treats being egg, pasta and romaine and grapes. She is very intelligent and adapted quickly to having a nice clean quiet place to sleep and happy place to forage. Every once in a while she will burst into a skip for the joy of being free in the garden. She spends her days scratching and frolicking with our flock and cohabitates beautifully except for Shasha. They really like everyone but each other. There are just some folks who rub each other the wrong way.

Thai breeds are very athletic but have thin feathers so a home with a warm coop and room to run will be a must. The breed has characteristic bare patches on their chests and shouolders that many mistake for injuries. Her wings were clipped when she arrived so we can surmise she really wanted to escape where she came from but she has never shown any interest in going over our fence. Wise girl.
