More About Mitchie

ADOPTED 11-09. Update 2-26-09. Hello, I’m Mitchie. I’m a 40 lb black female American Pit Bull Terrier. I will be one year old March 25, 2009. I am spayed, micro-chipped and current on all vaccines. I must admit I am adorable and highly personable. I was in a shelter as a 3 month old baby, and was rescued by Furry Friends Network before my euthanasia date. I love to play, play hide & seek, train, swim, run, be chased, go up and down slides, and go for walks.

Unfortunately, the foster home I was in was not able to offer the firm, structured home I needed. I was living with two other Pitties (a male and female) and three small children (ages 3, 4, and 8) and was having issues with the female dog in the home. So, I was sent to Pit Prints Pit Bull Rehab Center to undergo specific training, and then be placed for adoption once my training is complete.

This is an update from Pit Prints Pit Bull Rehab Center on my progress - Mitchie will do well with a firm training routine - and with someone who prevents issues before they start (i.e., if you see her giving another dog "the look" and staring them down, she needs to be corrected immediately before she escalates to growling). Whoever adopts Mitchie HAS to understand this. Mitchie's adopters also need to be able to raise their voice with her; someone who is very meek and quiet will be ignored and not respected by her. Mitchie must be in a completely controlled environment. She is fine being crated at night. Whoever adopts her is going to HAVE to commit to daily exercise, regardless of the weather or their long day at work, and be able to give her some one-on-one time. When Mitchie's in the house, she's usually occupying herself with a kong or a bone, or just chilling out depending on how much energy she burned. Mitchie is an unbelievably sweet bully, and absolutely adores people and attention from people, kids included. She's wonderful with people and extremely eager to please - very treat motivated, very intelligent, and very trainable. Mitchie makes no complaints about being bathed, groomed, handled all over, or having items removed from her mouth. She does not, however, like to share her food with other dogs and needs to be fed separately. She enjoys car rides, but does get car sick. She has great manners and rarely jumps on people, walks well on leash, and listens very well. Mitchie needs a firm owner who will correct her and assert themselves as the boss. Mitchie interacts well with male dogs that she knows (should be introduced cautiously to other dogs. In other words, she should NOT be allowed to approach or be approached by other dogs without being controlled on leash by her owner; otherwise, she needs to be muzzled when around other dogs), but has already displayed same sex aggression typical of the breed. As such, Mitchie will not be placed in a home with other female dogs.
