Meet ADOPTED RHETT

Rhett is a purebred Cavalier King Charles Spaniel who came into rescue suddenly when his owner went into a care facility. He is a devoted and loving dog that we're sure is very much missing his owner and constant companion.

Rhett is a typical Cav who's desire is just to please his person. He is friendly, outgoing, calm and good with everyone and everything he meets. Rhett is perfect in his crate, great with other dogs and LOVES the car.

Rhett's is not yet 5 and for all but the last year or so, he has been well cared for and much loved. As his owner's health declined so did Rhett's care. Rhett has been eating McDonald burgers and Cheetos and this 20 to 25 pound dog came to us weighing in at a whooping 50 pounds. He is now down to 40 pounds, has been neutered and had a dental and is ready for his forever home. Big weight loss, big news - Rhett can now get in the car on his own and then jump from the floor to the seat. YEAH! Rhett is starting to carry toys in his mouth and even willing to chase them sometimes. As his weight comes off, it is obvious that he will like to play. Rhett was house trained earlier in his life and is getting a brush up on that here in rescue and is doing great!

We had Rhett groomed and cut off a lot of his unhealthy hair but it will grow back and with weight loss this will be a beautiful Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. Matching his new, slim, good looks with his winning personality, this will be one stunning, wonderful companion.

Rhett is up to date on his shots and is heart worm negative. His blood panel is normal other than showing a low normal thyroid. We are waiting until he is in good physical condition to retest. Rhett was tested for glaucoma which is prevalent in the breed and he tested fine.

Rhett's adoption will require a fenced yard and someone who is not gone all day; someone that works from home, works part time, can take a dog to work or is retired. Although Rhett has no problem being left crated we feel that he would be happiest in a home that is much like the home that he had where he was with his owner much of the time.

Rhett's adopter must commit to continuing his diet. He is currently on a species appropriate raw, balanced diet and we feel it is best for him and credit it for his quick but healthy weight loss. If you are not familiar with or do not want to feed a raw species appropriate diet Rhett can be fed a no grain kibble in his new home. He must not be free fed for obvious reasons. Rhett's future health and well being will depend on his diet and exercise program and we are looking for a home that values that for their dogs.

It is difficult for us to not keep Rhett in our program until his weight loss is complete but Rhett's only problem is his weight and and as all Cavs do, he is deeply bonding with us. We feel that he should be bonding with his new owner. If you think that your lifestyle and environment fit with Rhett's needs please contact Martha Leary at learymjri@aol.com or call 330-262-0515 for more information or an adoption application.
