Wenley Schnauzer & Poodle Mix Berkeley, CA

Wenley's family needs to rehome Wenley. This is what Wenley's mom says about her:
"Wenley is about 5 years old. We got her in October of 2008 from Animal Care and Control in San Francisco and she was only a few months old at the time. We believe she is a schnauzer / schnoodle mix and is about 25 pounds.

She is a very loyal dog and is extremely attached to my husband and myself. We believe she was abused as a puppy and the fear we saw in her when we got her turned into fear-based aggression in certain circumstances as she got older. She has never snapped at my husband or myself but has snapped at (and bitten) other people. This is most likely to happen when she feel trapped (e.g. someone walks very close to her). She also has some issues with other dogs (can result in fights in park) and anxiety. The anxiety has showed up when we moved to a new place as I think the change in environment is difficult for her and this came out in ways such as getting into the trash, ripping up papers around the house. At the advice of our vet and our trainer, she was put on chlomocalm for a few months to help her get used to the new environment at which point we were able to take her off the medication and she was fine.

We have worked with two trainers since we got her and she improved immensely in all areas since we had her. However, we had a kid two years ago and she has not accepted our daughter. She growls at her constantly and has even snapped at her a couple of times. We were hoping this would get better but as our daughter gets older and more mobile it is only getting worse. We have been advised by both of our trainers and our vet that Wenley needs to find a new home.

Wenley needs a home without kids and ideally with someone who has experience with terriers or fear-aggressive dogs. She can be a fantastic dog with the right owner(s). She is incredible smart and is well-trained (understands all basic commands, etc.). She doesn't shed and may be hypo-allergenic (though we're not sure since she was a rescue). She loves chasing balls, going on hikes, and running in the park. We love her very much and hope to find someone who will love her as much as we do."
