OWNER SURRENDER AGAIN! SUGAR!! 10 yr old pitbull female. Bred numerous time, submissive and VERY sweet. Sugar was originally surrender by someone who kept her outside for long periods of time, tied to a tree in the dirt...oh and she breed her..ALOT. Her owner surrendered her without batting an eye, called her ugly. Sugar was then adopted 6 months ago but finds herself back at the pound as her new owner can no longer keep her. She was then adopted again but was surrendered because she could not get along with the cats in the house. She is a sweet as can be. She is spayed, UTD on shot and microchipped She does not deserve to be back at the pound. Sugar has some of the sweetest eyes this rescuer has ever looked into in 7 yrs of rescue. She is a beautiful dog actually..her white coat and quiet grace..she is stunning. She looks at you a smiles in every way she knows how. She has been so worn out..she deserves to rest on a soft bed..not the dirt. She deserves to eat till she is stuffed and romp around out of sheer delight. Sugar has never known anything sweet in life, despite her name. Sugar is house- trained and does now how to walk on leash and be a dog...she has been around kids and people of all ages...she seems very gentle in every single way and has shown no signs of any type of aggression. Sugar doe not do well with small dogs or cats. Sugar is great in the car too! She is quiet and enjoys the ride. Even though Sugar is technically a senior dog, she is still very strong and active. She needs some leash training, and she is strong so an abled bodied and active person would be best for Sugar. Sugar is not destructive in a home and she is houstrained. Sugar's body really shows the signs of her life, her nipples are very low and stretched, we can only imagine how many litters she had, he body has marks and stains from living outside. Even with that, we all think she is such a pretty and deserving dog.

Please read our postings carefully!!!! Our Viewing hours are 3:00 to 4:00 pm daily because we have no one in the office during the day and we are on routine patrol .
There is a short application for adoption, however if you do not own your home we must have a letter from your landlord giving permission to have said animal. If there are other pets in the home they must be licensed (if a dog) and up to date on vaccinations. If there is another dog in the home a dog interaction must be done at the shelter before adoption, to ensure the safety and well being of all pets.
Most our dogs are picked up as strays, we do not have a medical history on most and assume many come in without vaccinations. We only treat emergency medical needs, or basic kennel cough and stool treatment. It will be the responsibility of the new owner to have the dog vaccinated and vet checked.
All our unaltered canines are adopted out with APCP Certificates. A Connecticut resident must pay a $50.00 fee ($45.00 goes to APCP, $5.00 to municipality) at the time of adoption, which entitles the adopter to a vaccination/sterilization voucher good for sixty days. The voucher provides a one-time sterilization fee of $100.00 for a male dog, and $120.00 for a female dog plus two pre-surgical vaccinations coincident with sterilization.
Nonresidents may adopt a pound pet for the $5.00 municipal fee, but are not eligible for program benefits. Pets too young or sick are granted a medical extension by the veterinarian; however, all young animals must be sterilized by six months of age.
If you are interested in adoption please call our office at 203-235-4179 or send us an email to paw364@yahoo.com.
