Why rescue a rottweiler, especially one as old and tragic and pitiful as this one? This is the dog that is considered unadoptable by anyone who sees her, and can't look past the exterior. This is the dog that will not have alot of time left due to the years of neglect. This is exactly the dog that is first to be left on the streets, and first to be killed in shelters because of her age, breed, and the way she looks from the years of hard life. Dogs like her come into shelters and no one looks hard enough to see that there is nothing but affection in that frail, beaten up body. Most wouldn't have gotten past the thousands of crawling ticks that infested her and anyone who got near her. Lucy has somehow managed to live this long in this shape, and she deserves to be saved and shown that we are kind, and we do care, and that some humans do have a kind touch.
It can't always be about what we want them to give us . . . what we want a dog to be like, or look like, or we want a puppy because we want to have them for many years. Yes, it is hard to see them die, but imagine how hard it is on them, to survive all the pain, neglect only to end up in a shelter, alone, scared, and die there. We have to consider giving some of these poor senior, broken down dogs what we can give them in the end of their lives . . .
a safe place to land, to spend what little time they may have in safety, comfort, and love. People think if they buy a puppy and raise it that they will get more love and loyalty. A rescued dog that has had a hard life, knows what it has now, is so appreciative of what it has now that it will love you, adore you, and be loyal to you. You don't have to raise a puppy, or have a dog for years to get that loyal, unconditional love -- Give a senior rescue a chance -- they are dying to love and belong to someone -- they just want to please you. Love and give of yourself unselfishly.
SWEET AND KIND
EVEN AFTER ALL OF THIS . . .How many people have seen me on the streets, starving, limping, looking for food and shelter? How many people thought there was nothing they could do or couldn't be bothered? How many people left me out there because I am a rottweiler or because they'd never consider touching a dog that looked as poor as I do. Finally somebody cared enough to save me regardless of my breed, and the horrible way I look. My body is old, sore, and weak from years of neglect and malnutrition. I can barely hold my head up. I'm so covered in ticks that you can't even see my skin. There were so many ticks on me, that within an hour they were crawling out of the kennel and up the walls to the ceiling. I was shot more than once with BB's. There are so many BB's in my body that you can't begin to count them. I'm heartworm positive, skinny, hungry, and limping on one leg, and the other leg is horribly swollen. It is obvious that I've had litter, after litter, after litter of puppies - you should see my poor worn out body. Someone cut part of my ear off, probably to mark me in a group of dogs they were breeding. I keep my head low and I try not to be a bother, but if you sit with me and talk with me I will wag my rottie nub and lick your hand very gently. I'm happy to lay my head in your lap and go to sleep. At some point in my life, I was a beautiful rottie but now I'm just a shell of what I once was. If it weren't for my hair and nub of a tail, one would never guess I was once a strong, beautiful, regal rottie girl.
Even after all of these years of neglect and starvation . . . I still possess the rottie characteristics that make my breed so special. I'm gentle, gracious, sweet, and so eager to love and lean against you as all rotties do . . . ready to give humans another chance even though I have suffered at their hands all this time. Immediately after being rescued I was trying to obey and please the many people who were handling me. I will let you do anything you want to me. No matter how much my body hurts I have shown nothing but kindness to my rescuers. I just want to curl up in your lap. My medical bills will be on going so please consider donating to help with my many medical needs. You can be one of my Heroes below. I'm very happy and very lucky to be rescued and hope to find a foster home to recover in, but I still dream of having my very own permanent home with humans to love. Do you think someone out there, will give me what I never had . . . a home, safety, and love. I'm approx. 5-9 yrs old, 75 lbs. $100 adoption fee.
