Meet Lulu- SAD

**Sadly, Lulu passed away on May 19th, 2011. She has been diagnosed with cancer only months before when she had a growth on her left foot removed. The growth grew back immediately and so did Lulu's lymph node behind her leg. In only a few short months, this caused Lulu to lose her ability to hop, and then she stopped eating. Lulu knew it was her time and she went peacefully. Lulu is now over the rainbow bridge with her best friend and bonded partner, Tonka.

I'm Tonka and I'm going to tell you a story about me, and my woman Lulu. She's the Silven Marten/Dutch mix (on the right) and I'm the handsome black and white English Spot (on the left). We were both Hug-a-Bunnies living in the same foster home and imagine this- we fell in love there! Listen to our love story!

We first met in November of 2007 at our foster mom's house while living side by side in our pens. Then, Lulu went to live at another foster home, but returned back here in January of 2008 after the "Sterling Rescue," since room needed to be made where she was living at the time. I thought about her the whole time she was gone. As soon as she returned, we rekindled our romance and started laying side by side again- stuffed all the way up against the side of our exercise pens to be close to each other. We were trying to make it clear that we wanted to live together, even though we couldn't touch each other physically. Our foster mom wasn't noticing the stars in our eyes!

Finally, our foster mom got the point and in February of 2008 she moved our pens closer together. Our "first date" was while she was cleaning Lulu's pen. As soon as she let us near each other, Lulu came all the way up to me and we started grooming each other through the bars of the pen right away! It is so rare to find true love in the form of a fellow foster rabbit! After that display of affection, our foster mom tried us together for our first date the following night in the bathroom- and we hit it off immediately! We stretched out together right away and have been grooming each other nonstop ever since. After that day we convinced her to let us live together! Even check out our video- Lulu can't stop kissing me! We're just so happy to be together and we're so in love.

We both came to Hug-a-Bunny for different reasons. I am a 9-year old neutered male and wound up in the county shelter when my human of 7 years got very sick with a terminal illness. If you couldn't guess, I got my name since I'm as big as a Tonka truck! Lulu, who is a 3-year old female, was at the same shelter, although not during the same time I was there. She was originally dumped there by a family who no longer wanted to care for her. She was adopted once, yet returned to the shelter again because the kids got sick of her, even though she's such a friendly girl. Unfortunately, poor Lulu faced the same fate as many discarded family rabbits. It must have been fate for us to be together, since we've crossed paths many times through the same shelter and Hug-a-Bunny foster homes...and this final time I finally got my point across. Now Lulu and I can spend the rest of our lives together!

We're both litterbox trained and and altered. We're both also a bit overweight, although after watching the show "The Biggest Loser" we're both inspired and are eating healthy and running laps together. We only get a tiny bit of pellets each day and our diet consists mostly of timothy hay and dark, leafy greens. Our favorite thing to do is to relax and groom each other at the end of a long workout. I think we're both looking trimmer already- since we have the added motivation of looking good for each other! We're truly in love and must be adopted together. Although I'm an older guy, I still have time and love left to give to Lulu and you. I can be a bit grumpy sometimes, but Lulu tries to keep me in check. The average lifespan of a rabbit is 8-10 years, so I'm starting to slow down a bit, but still have tons of love and life left to give. One interesting fact- Lulu and I have the same tickle spot! If you scratch us in the right spot we're sure to give you kisses! Now that we have each other, all we're missing is our permanent home!

**Check out the video of us smooching through the tab on the right (above our picture) that says "Watch Video!"
