Tavis Cairn Terrier Roanoke, VA

Tavis is a 3.5-year-old neutered male Cairn terrier. He is up-to-date on vet care. He's had basic obedience classes and is currently working on agility.

Tavis is affectionate, happy, active, energetic, cute, smart and a very quick learner. He loves to be outside, he loves to go for walks or hikes, He loves to play fetch or catch or tug. He loves to go to classes. He did very well in basic obedience type classes. Recently we've been doing Agility classes. He is a very quick learner and eager to please and very food motivated. Tavis is the only Cairn we've had who is really a lapdog. He loves to sleep in my lap in the recliner.

Tavis is an escape artist. If he is unrestrained, he will come out of nowhere and fly out the door when it is opened. We always try to have him in a crate or behind the gate or in someone's arms when we open the door. When he is loose Tavis heads to the woods and goes into terrier mode looking for varmints. At that point he can't remember his name; he will not come for treats. It takes a while to get him cornered.

Tavis does not have the best social skills when encountering new dogs. Tavis usually gets very excited about new dogs and tends to bark. (...I might be small but don't underestimate me kind of attitude...) Because of his manners, I don't trust him in a dog park type situation, especially if the other owner is not willing to manage their dog. I think he could get along well with other dogs if they are properly introduced.
