Bennington German Shepherd Dog & German Spitz Mix Palmer, MA

Hi everyone! My name is Bennington! I am a 1 year old Elkhound mix (also known as a Spitz). You may recognize me as I have been featured on GoFundme campaigns and on Facebook pages. Back then I needed a lot of help…..but today I am a very healthy and happy go lucky puppy who is looking for his forever home. My sister and I were the result of inbred parents and were therefore the unlucky recipients of a few issues. A wonderful rescue understood we would need some special care and committment to make us healthy and ready for our forever homes and now that my sister has found hers, it is my turn. I am blind and have been since birth so I am not missing out on anything. I saw a special surgeon at Tufts called an Opthamologist who determined it was necessary to remove my eyes due to excessive pressure which was causing me pain. That was my first experience with “surgery”. Next came a visit with an Ortho specialist and a TTT (Tibial Tuberosity Transformationing) surgery on my left leg, followed a couple months later by a TTT surgery on my right leg. It has been 4 months since my last surgery and I am fully recovered, healthy and loving life! I never knew I could feel so good and not be in pain! I have been cared for by a wonderful loving foster family for many months but it is time for me to find my forever home now. Unlike most other dogs, I didn’t get to spend my puppyhood in training classes learning new things so I am playing “catch up” and doing all of that now. My foster mom says I am super smart and am learning quickly. I have a doggie sibling in the house who really has helped me a lot. He is my best friend and companion and I lean on him to show me the ropes and teach me boundaries since I cannot see them myself. We run and play outside together every day. I even love the new foster pup that just arrived a few days ago and when we play, I make sure I am very gentle. My foster mom says I have the most amazing sweet playful personality and I possess all the tools I need now to be succesful!

My ideal forever home must include a physical fence and a doggie sibling who is looking for a best friend and companion and doesn’t mind me following their lead. Someone who has some experience with a blind dog and how to continue training me would be ideal. And of course, most of all, I would like lots of love and attention from everyone in my new family! I am a very happy boy despite what I have been through and I know I can make my new family very happy too!

I am healthy, neutered, up to date on all my vaccinations and currently in a foster home in Massachusetts. My bags are packed and I am ready for a new adventure!
