Meet Apollo

Apollo is young almost 2 year old English setter who might be mixed with a little of something else:)

Found as a stray, he then found a foster! Apollo has been vetted and recently neutered. He’s been working on house training and is slowly getting the gist of it. He is super calm in the house and likes being with his foster while working from home. Apollo has a habit of pacing around the house when it gets dark but then settles nicely around 9pm. He’s been in foster for a short time and maybe he just doesn’t know he can be inside at night-yet.

Apollo likes sleeping on the couch or the bed with his fosters. He’s being fed small meals several times a day to get his weight where the vet recommends. He loves to throw around toys, follows his foster from room to room and can be a bit nervous around new sounds. It seems he wasn’t in a house and some of the sounds make him a bit nervous. Slowly, he’s getting used to the usual household chorus of vacuums, hairdryers and the clinking of dishes and such. He doesn’t know many commands yet but will listen to “no” when outside.

Apollo can be an escape artist leaping over a 4’ fence in the blink of an eye and scale a 6’ chain link fence with no issues. He is very food/treat motivated and is taking well to the training collar on vibrate only. He loves carrying toys (one by one) from room to room. His foster moves them at night so he can start all over again! Apollo is a softie and loves to be with a person. He is a very good companion.

Apollo has bonded quickly with his foster and seems he would do better with a female canine companion. He is relatively cautious and afraid around new dogs so slow introductions will be good for him. Apollo greets all dogs in his foster home with a wagging tail in the morning and then prefers to do his own thing. He’s not much into playing at this point. He meets other dogs on his walks and has no issues. He LOVES, LOVES his walks and would make a great hiking partner. He does well with the 7 year old human sibling too.

Apollo loves to snuggle, get belly rubs, toys, food and treats. He wags furiously when he sees it’s time for a walk and will place his head in the walking collar once he settles from excitement. He does lean close and will push all his weight into you. He is still has lots of puppy behaviors and his foster is working on curbing his curiosity with trash, papers, drawer knobs and non-toys.

Apollo would do best with a hiking partner who would take him on lots of walks and then napping. He sleeps all night and really doesn’t like early morning wake up calls. His high energy level and ability to scale a fence in a single bound requires an adopter to have a non-scalable fence and the ability to continue training with a gentle demeanor. Cats are unknown.
