Meet Uno

UPDATE 10/4: Please note, we have an approved application for Uno and her family mate Piglet, but Piglet is having surgery on his ear on October 15, so they can’t go home until he is done convalescing. We are still accepting applications until then, in the event their approved applicant has a change of heart between now and then.

The shelter recently took in four cats from the home of a woman who lost her battle with cancer. She had rescued a stray family of cats many years ago, and when she became ill last year and could no longer care for all the cats, we took in four of them, and the original four all found homes. Now her remaining beloved cats — Uno, Dos, Annie and Piglet — have lost their lifelong love, and also the only home they have known since they were kittens. Please read their stories and consider adopting one (or two!) of these really nice cats who were left bereft when their lady love passed away in early September. Here is Uno’s story, in her own words:

“My name is Uno, and I am 10 years old and the boss of this family. I LOVE LOVE LOVE people, especially when they put me on a lap and brush me and kiss me and hug me. Can’t get enough of that. I even like it when they give me a mani-pedi. The people were saying that when I was a kitten I lost an eye to infection, and I really don’t know what that means, but just think of it as me winking at you. Piglet said I look like a pirate and I smacked him on the head, but then he said he meant it as a compliment, like I look real ‘bad-ass,’ so then I licked his head where I smacked it, which is how us cats say ‘Sorry I smacked you on the head.’ Well, I can’t figure out how we all ended up here, and I miss my lady so much, but I’m keeping the other cats in line and making sure no one does anything to get us kicked out the door. Sometimes I might hiss at one of the others or swat one, but that’s as bad as it gets. I don’t really fight with them. But I do think I’d be happier in a home where I can definitely be the boss, or maybe one where I don’t even have to boss any other cats around. I get along with these other three, but if you already have a boss cat that could be a problem for me. Maybe my sister Dos can come with me. She likes people too, but she’s having a hard time getting over her shyness here.”

Uno is spayed, current on vaccinations, box-trained and tested negative for FIV and feline leukemia. She’s in generally good health for a cat her age, with no indication of any chronic health issues. For more information or an application, please email ClayvilleCritters@cox.net, call the shelter at (401) 647-7200, or stop in to see her during visiting hours — Tuesday through Friday 7 to 11 am, and Saturday 10 am to 3 pm.
