Meet Snuggles

My name is Snuggles. I am an independent and playful kind of guy. My birthday is probably around March 6th, 2019. I really love our dog mommy. I use a litter box. I am from a litter of nine orphaned kittens. Someone found us abandoned when we were only three weeks old, so we have had a human mommy ever since. We were really lucky though, because we have another mommy too, a dog mommy who has played with and cared for us every day since we were found! So we really like to play with people and with other dogs. We have something else that is really special about us too, at 7 weeks old 6 of ustested positive for feline leukemia, a disease that only affects cats.
In rare cases some cats can beat this disease, but most of us who test positive keep it for life. What this means for us kitties is that we have an average of 3-5 years to love you instead of the regular 15-20. See, when we get sick, we have a lot harder time getting well, and eventually this awful disease(that there is a vaccine for!!) can cause lots of other problems that we will need someone to love us through. The good news is we spend most of that time just like any other cat, and we still want a family to love and play with, with all of our hearts. It does mean that it is very important that we are INSIDE ONLY so that there is less chance of sickness or injury, and so we don't end up all alone if we do get hurt or sick.
FelV is not contagious to any species other than cats. Unfortunately, there is still some risk to negative cats, even if they have been vaccinated. Some vets say that FelV positive cats should only go to homes where there are no other cats, or cats that are already positive, while some say as long as your other cats are vaccinated adults it is ok to mix. It is generally only spread through direct contact, or occasionally through shared food dishes or litter boxes, and the virus dies quickly outside the body. This means another option if you would like to adopt would be to keep the cats from having direct contact and use separate dishes and litter boxes to keep noninfected cats 100% safe.

My adoption fee is $50. This fee includes my vaccinations, de-wormer, and spay/neuter . Fill out an application at rescueonespringfield.com if you would like to meet me!
