Butler American Eskimo Dog Elmhurst, IL

Butler is a beautiful, male, larger mini/small standard, American Eskimo Dog. He came to our rescue from an Iowa puppymill/breeder. As expected, because of his background, Butler had a tough start, very shut down and unwilling to interact with anyone. But we have GREAT NEWS, Butler is making tremendous progress and we are so proud! Butler now LOVES to run around with other playful dogs, is following the small pack in his foster home, and is even liking being pet, beginning to come for attention on his own! Butler has come such a long way over the last 6 weeks, it is so encouraging! He is a beautiful boy with a very sweet personality. Butler really enjoys having another dog or two around; he is playing with his doggie foster siblings and even taking an interest in toys. The perfect home for Butler is one with plenty of dog experience, Eskie experience is preferred, a couple or family with possibly teenagers, but no small children, and cats are OK too. Having a fenced yard is a must, a playful, well-trained dog in the home would be a huge plus for Butler to follow and learn from. Butler is only beginning to learn what it means to walk on leash, and will do fine with a doggie seat-belt for car rides. Butler is not housebroken yet, but getting much better and will go outside when directed & encouraged where to go. Butler will need continued support, training, confidence building, and socialization. There is so much joy in watching dogs with this kind of background blossom, and it gives you a renewed contentment in the little things, the small accomplishments gained along the journey of becoming a "real dog."
