Health
Vaccinations up to date, spayed / neutered, special needs. Hamilton is FIV+. So what does that mean? Feline Immunodeficiency Virus is a virus that may, over time, depress the immune system. The good news is that cats who test positive for FIV can live long, healthy lives with the proper care - regular vet checkups, and a balanced diet. The virus itself is not what harms the cat, it is secondary diseases that they catch due to the immune system being compromised. The virus is species specific - it can only be passed to cats, not dogs or humans. It also is not passed communicably through shared water and food or litter boxes. It is passed through deep bite wounds, so it is important to keep FIV+ cats indoors and away from any cats that pick fights. It is a common misconception that FIV+ cats have to be completely separated from other cats, They are able to live among negative cats if they all get along and are not likely to fight. They can also live with other FIV cats.
Good in a home with

Meet Hamilton

"Every cat should have a home, and every home should have a cat. Adopt me this Presidents Day, and I'll be the Commander-in-chief of your heart! I'm Hamilton, and I approve this message!"
Hamilton came into ARC earlier this year, before the brutal temperatures hit and he was left to fend for himself. Formerly living as a stray behind a local Giant market, Hamilton is LOVING the warmth, food, and most importantly, ATTENTION, the shelter staff has to offer. Calm and low-energy, Hamilton would be an ideal candidate for a home looking for a lap cat. Unfortunately, he has FIV from his past life, but he's not about to let it destroy his future. Hamilton could be placed with another calm, low level cat or would thrive as an only pet.
We are pushing to find President Hamilton a home quickly, as he is being bullied by his FIV+ roommates at the shelter - trying to keep several alphas in one room can certainly be a challenge, but this sweet boy has remained submissive and respectful of their dominance every step of the way.

Hamilton is FeLV negative but is *FIV positive*, up-to-date on vaccines, dewormed, litter trained and neutered. If you’re interested in adopting sweet Hammie please contact Michelle at 570-759-0920 or myefko@verizon.net.
