Iorek Byrnison Saint Bernard Goleta, CA

We were unable to house this 5 year-old St Bernard anymore, so Saintly Pursuits Large Dog Rescue in Evansville, Indiana now has him. Feel free to contact us if you are interested in adopting him, and we will pass your information on to them. Iorek is a big boy, weighing in at 160lbs. He is looking for a forever home with someone who wants a companion for long hikes or bike rides - daily walks just around the block are not enough for him! He also is hoping to find someone who gives him lots of attention, cuddles with him and gives him LOTS of belly rubs. He can entertain himself for hours with a rubber ball and other kinds of toys. Iorek is a gentleman in the house. He has been leash-trained and has impeccable manners. Car rides are his favorite and he happily will make himself comfy in any kind of backseat (so long as it is not an open truck bed.) Iorek sticks like glue to his person and likes to be involved in all kinds of activities, like ranch and farm work, or gardening.
Besides looking for a home where he lives inside, but has outdoor space to play, he wants to make sure his new owner knows that he can jump fences (he goes over a 4-ft fence from standing still - without needing a running start) and he can open doors, especially sliding glass doors.
Iorek does not share very well, so he would prefer to be the only dog in the household. He does well with other dogs outside of his home, but after years of being ignored, he wants to soak up all his owner's attention by himself. Iorek has a tendency to be possessive of his person. Given his size, it is best if his home does not have small children. Like the bear he is named after, Iorek is a very big boy and eats a lot - - 4 lbs of meat a day! He needs high quality food in order to keep in shape - for those massive muscles he will be building while he goes on hikes with you. Like all Saint Bernards, he drools (very little!), he sheds, and he needs daily brushing and combing (and those daily belly rubs!).
All that being said, he is a ton of fun and love for the right person!
