Meet Butterbean

Hi hopeful future family! My name is Butterbean. I’m a 7-month-old male Pitbull-mix puppy looking for a new forever family. Unfortunately, my previous family had to give me up. When I was surrendered to animal control, things weren’t too good for me. I was sick with parvovirus; many pups don’t survive that, ya know. I had Demodex mange. I was really thin and hungry. And to top it all off, I had “crate feet.” That’s from being kept in a crate too small to stand in; so from not standing up straight enough, I couldn’t use my feet right.

Thanks to the nice people at animal control and SCCR, things are way better for me now. They treated my parvo. They fixed my mange. And with all the tasty food and exercise I’m getting these days at my foster home, I’m growing and my feet are back to normal! I’m so happy now! I love to chase balls around the yard, steal my foster brother’s toys, and chew antlers. Ya know, PUPPY STUFF!

But my foster family says I still have to get better so I can find my forever family. They’re teaching me… um… I think its “minners?” No. Wait. No, that’s not it. Wait… “Manners!” That’s it! Manners! I don’t what that is but they’re teaching me lots of things. They’re teaching me “sit.” That’s an easy one. I can do that one. They’re teaching me to go do my potties outside cuz they say that’s REALLY important. I’m pretty good at that one but sometimes I forget and start sniffing around and that’s usually when they notice and let me outside. Plus, it gives me a break from being inside so I can run in the grass, too. That’s just during the day when I’m active though. In the crate I can hold it for a full 8 hours when they’re away; at “work,” whatever that is. And at night in the crate, I can hold it too.

For the most part, I don't really bark, unless I am looking for you, then I will quietly ask "Hey where are you? I miss you!" As I have become healthier, I have gained my happy puppy enthusiasm. I love to play in the yard, especially this one game Foster Mom taught me called "fetch". I also enjoy tug of war and playing with squeaky toys! I like my walks and do pretty well on the leash.

I get along with just about anyone I meet, especially if they like to play. Since I’m a puppy, I get excited easily and still have a hard time not jumping up on things, or people, or children; and I’m still learning to share things with other dogs — I’m not used to having things. An easy-going furry brother or sister would be best for me. I met a cat once. I didn’t know what to do so I just licked it.

One of my favorite activities here at my foster home is to crawl up in a lap and give kisses, snuggles, tail wags, and adoring eyes. It's the best way I know to say thank you! I would love to share that with you if you can provide the love I crave.

Please check our events page at http://www.SecondCityCanineRescue.org to find where this dog may be shown this weekend. If you are interested in adopting this dog, you must send an application or email us at adoptions@sccrescue.org prior to a Saturday Adoption Event so we know you plan on attending. If we do not receive any communication from you, the dog may be adopted out at our event prior to 12 pm if the perfect home comes along. :-)

The breed or breed mix listed for each dog is simply a guess. The profile software program requires that we choose a predominant breed or breed mix for our dogs. However, visual breed identification is unreliable. We encourage you to select your new companion by considering each dog’s individual personality and pet qualities instead of relying on a breed label that is only a guess. Dogs are individuals.

Please understand, we only adopt our animals out near Chicagoland... we are sorry but we cannot accept any out of state applications. We look forward to speaking with you!
