Meet Canela

Canela came to us all the way from Hood River's unofficial sister city, Los Barriles, Mexico! Her name means "Cinnamon" in Spanish. Canela is a medium-sized 40 lb, 3-year-old Shar Pei mix girl. Usually we try to keep our bios upbeat, but we think Canela's bravery and sweetness deserves a backstory. Canela spent most of her previous life tied up on a cement patio, with little attention or food. When she finally escaped one day, she was hit and rolled by a car. She was finally rescued and nursed back to health by ALMA, the local rescue program in Los Barriles. Unfortunately, they didn't have the capacity to keep her over the summer, so she flew all the way up to Hood River, Oregon in search of her forever home! Despite Canela's unfortunate past, she remains one of the sweetest, calmest, and most gentle dogs. She loves to wag and wiggle right into your lap for a pets, or trot happily alongside of you on walks. She seems great with kids, most dogs, and isn't even afraid at all of cars or new people. She can co-exist ok with cats, but if they run, she may be tempted to chase. Definitely no chickens. Canela does have some scars after all she's been through, but we think they give her character and life story. Like many dogs from Mexico, Canela used to have a tick-born disease. She is totally cleared of it now, and although she is prone to low platelets, she has been living a happy, healthy, and normal life. If you are looking for a loving, happy-go-lucky dog who deserves her own happy-ending, then look no further than Miss Canela. She is current on shots, microchipped and neutered. The adoption fee for Canela is $200. WE ARE A SUPER BUSY, SMALL GROUP OF VOLUNTEERS, AND ASK THAT YOU TURN IN AN APPLICATION FROM OUR WEBSITE AHEAD OF TIME AND WE'LL BE IN TOUCH TO SCHEDULE A MEET AND GREET, AND ANSWER ANY QUESTIONS YOU MAY HAVE ABOUT THIS DOG.
