Missy is incredibly sweet and a total love bug! She's made giant strides with her foster family and has gone from hiding in her crate all day to now pure excitement to see them. Her tail never stops wagging to show love and appreciation toward her foster humans.

She is still learning that the outside world is not such a bad place. She's a shy dog and needs a confident doggie sibling to teach her the ropes. She needs an experienced dog owner who can challenge her and respect her insecurities, and provide patience to keep her coming out of her shell (sorry, no first time dog owners). The reward of her love is truly worth it.

Missy is much more willing to trust in her own environment, like indoors or in her own yard, than out in strange places. While she goes on walks and on-leash hikes, and to the dog park to get the exercise she needs, these are still outside her comfort zone. She would thrive in a yard to play and run in more securely.

She has been super sweet with her foster family's easy going dogs, and has even started helping them protect the house. She does not currently live with kids or cats, and would probably be fine with slow introductions and with kids who are well versed in dog. It will take some time to trust her new family, but once she does she is very loyal.

Missy loves her dog bed, toys and antlers; she's extremely food motivated and is very smart. She is a very good snuggler and loves to nap. She travels well in the car. She would make an excellent second or third dog in a house with a yard.

You can save animals like this one by becoming a foster! Fosters are like way stations between high kill shelters and forever homes. We need fosters so that we can save dogs before they are euthanized at the shelters. If you are interested in becoming a foster, please check out our information about fostering by visiting http://www.homewardtrails.org/foster-a-pet/dog-and-cat-foster-program/
