This adorable Border Collie with the mile-wide smile is Ruby - a sweet girl who has had a rough past. She can understandably be quite timid in some circumstances, but she has now been in foster care a month and is really starting to blossom. She is a most charming and enthusiastic little lass, with her giant grin and silly ears, just a little monkey of a dog. She loves to roll about in the snow, run wildly at top speeds, and go for walks and bike rides. She is a bouncy girl with a moderate energy level who settles down nicely after she gets her daily outing. She gets along well with other dogs, isn’t really playful with them though, and a dog park setting would probably be too much for her. She is, more than anything, a dog who desperately wants a human family to belong to. Although it’s clear nobody has taken the time to work with her, she is really eager to learn (see the video of one of her first lessons at https://youtu.be/6bEmkl2SDfA). She is cratetrained, walks well on a leash with the help of a no pull harness, and is really making progress with sitting and coming when called. We hear she has lived peaceably around all kinds of livestock in the past - horses, donkeys, llamas. She has peaceably shared a home with several dogs and cats and a potbellied pig, and she ignores the sheep in her foster home. Ruby will need adopters who are patient and experienced with helping shy dogs build confidence while keeping them safe from situations that are too overwhelming as they learn the world is a good place. She will do best in a quiet setting with a pretty set routine. Estimates place her at 5 years old, although she acts younger...she’s about 35 pounds, build low and lean.
