Meet Whimsy

AT PEPPERMINT PIG ANIMAL RESCUE, WE UPDATE ALL OF OUR PETS ON A REGULAR BASIS.

IF YOU SEE ME HERE, I AM AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION. PLEASE READ MY BIO BELOW TO LEARN MORE ABOUT ME AND HOW TO APPLY TO ADOPT :)

Meet WHIMSY:: 5 months old, 65 pounds, Born in rescue on 02/17/18, Female Great Dane.

Available for adoption!

PLEASE READ ALL DETAILS THOROUGHLY BEFORE APPLYING TO ADOPT.

This sweet baby girl was born in one of our foster homes after we rescued their mom from a kill shelter where a registered Great Dane breeder dumped her after she was of no use to him anymore.

Whimsy is generally a calm and laid back girl, but also playful, intelligent, and so very sweet. Her foster mum is working on potty and crate training with her and she already knows commands, sit, down, and come. Whimsy has learned excellent in home manners in her foster home and she is being fostered with other dogs, a cat, and children, so any of these will be suitable in her forever home.

As for Whimsy's adult size, she and the rest of the litter have always been on the bigger side of the scales since birth, and Winter, their mom (also available for adoption), weighs 140 lbs. We do not know how big the dad was. The breeder who dumped Winter said that he kept her kenneled in a barn with several of his male Great Danes.

IMPORTANT-PLEASE READ BELOW FOR ADOPTION REQUIREMENTS:

1. A fenced yard of appropriate height (4 feet or higher) is REQUIRED to adopt. No exceptions. Please include photos of your fence in the section provided in the adoption application. The fence is only a minimum requirement and will be assessed along the other requirements listed and with a thorough evaluation of your application.

2. Adopters MUST live within a one-hour radius of Anderson Township in Cincinnati, OH. No exceptions. If you have questions regarding our adoption radius, please see our ADOPTION RADIUS tab on our website.

3. Adopters must have current or previous experience with Great Danes and/or Mastiff breed dogs as an ADULT. Childhood dogs do not give you the experience in raising, training, and feeding and veterinary expenses of a Great Dane. If you have experience, but have never raised a Great Dane from puppyhood, please research how to properly feed Great Dane puppies for optimal health and growth and tell us what you know about this in the space provided on the application. Experience with the breed is a minimum requirement that you must meet and will be assessed along the other requirements listed and with a thorough evaluation of your application.

4. In addition to our primary adoption contract, adopters will also be required to sign a separate contract that states they will not alter the dogs appearance with ear cropping, tail docking, dew claw removal, etc.

5. The second contract will also stipulate that you are to bring the puppy to our vet at no later than 9 months of age (on or before November 17, 2018) to be spayed, and that she will not produce any litters of puppies either intentionally or by accident. Our goal is to ensure that these giant breed puppies are able to physically mature before sterilization, without risking pregnancy. This was not a decision made on a whim. As a rescue, we have a duty to prevent further pet overpopulation and senseless euthanasia in shelters. We are big believers in letting our rescue pups mature before sterilization surgery, and we are fully aware of the need for this breed to mature. After consulting with our vets, 9 months is as far as we can go without risking her producing litters. We are an All Breeds Rescue, yet we have rescued 20 pure bred Great Danes just in the last year alone, and we haven't even skimmed the surface of how many are still homeless and in need of rescue. We will not risk the puppies we rescued making more puppies. If you have any issues with this, please do not apply.

If you cannot abide by the stipulations in these contracts, or if you do not meet the minimum requirements, please do not apply.

Permanent guardianship of Whimsy is contingent on your compliance with these 2 contracts and PPAR will reserve the right to confiscate the puppy and retain the adoption fee if the anything in either of these contracts is breached.

Along with these minimum requirements, a thoroughly completed application will be assessed to find the best home possible for Whimsy.

A copy of our primary adoption contract/commitment form can be viewed on our website under the Adoption Center tab. The second contract will be presented and signed along with the primary contract at the time of adoption.

We have given Whimsy her first 3 rounds of puppy vaccines (DAPP on 4/14/18, DALPP+Bordatella on 5/12/18, and DALPP+Bordatella on 6/9/18), her one year rabies vaccine, and we have microchipped her. She had 3 rounds of Strongid dewormer, given at 4, 6, and 8 weeks of age and had a negative fecal test. She was started on heartworm and flea prevention (Revolution) at 6 weeks of age and is being kept current with Trifexis until adoption. Adopters will be required to continue heartworm and flea prevention year round after adoption, as well as regular vaccinations, heartworm testing, check-ups, and any other veterinary care, routine or non-routine, that they may need. Please keep in mind that Whimsy is a giant breed puppy, and with giant dogs comes much larger vet bills.

All of the dewormings, preventatives, vaccines, spay, and lifetime membership microchip mentioned here that PPAR provides, are included in her $350 adoption fee.
