Meet Dax

Meet Dax, a 10 YO Weimaraner who thinks he is 5. Dax has an above average IQ and amazingly trained. Sit, down, paw, leave it, stay and come are all skills he has perfected. Dax walks well in harness and knows how to heal with little to no pull. His foster home has done some off lease work with him with in a safe environment with great success.

Dax is seeking a loving family to have his people all to himself. Although Dax does well with other dogs, he is best suited in a home where he can be the sole attention getter or be with a low key, non excited other dog. Dax loves humans and so wants to bond with his people. He loves to lay on a warm lap and give and receive kisses. If given the option, he will be your heated blanket at night.

Dax is great with using a drummel on his nails and also perfect in a shower for bathing. He is housebroken and will scratch at the door when needing to go outside or come back in. He is left to free range in his foster home with no issue. If given dog toys with squeaky inserts, he will perform operations on the toys to eliminate the squeak. Dax is great at playing fetch and loves to return the ball to you for another throw.

Dax can run like the wind but if he over does it, he will be a bit gimpy for a brief period of time. He would benefit from diets containing glucosamine and also high in fat. Dax is currently being fed 4 times per day in foster care as he arrived significantly under weight. After eating, Dax’s activity is limited to allow his food to digest before playing. Dax has no food aggression and can easily be fed side by side with other dogs. He enjoys soft food mixed with his kibble to make it more palpable.

Dax has been exposed to horses, ducks and chickens and has done outstanding on lease with them using the leave it command. Dax has not been exposed to cats so this is an unknown.

Dax is seeking a family where he is a true family member involved in family activity and quiet time. Love, play, lap time and quality diet are all traits Dax seeks for his forever home.

Great Lakes Weimaraner Rescue is an all volunteer, nonprofit group whose primary mission is to help with the rescue and placement of Weims in the Great Lakes region; including Michigan, Ohio, Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, and Ontario.

GLWR is headquartered in Michigan with a network of foster homes in our State & Country Chapters. We do not have a shelter that is open for the public to visit. All applicants must be approved before meeting any dog in our foster network.

GLWR does not ship dogs, but if you are willing to travel to meet one of our dogs fostered in one of our Satellite Chapters, then you are welcome to apply for adoption. All dogs not listed as being fostered in a specific State or Country Chapter, are fostered in Michigan.

Please visit our website at www.GreatLakesWeimRescue.com to see a complete list of weims that are waiting for their forever homes! The availability status of any Weimaraner listed on our site is subject to change without notice. Please contact our Adoption and Applications Coordinator for current availability status.
