Meet Ben

Hey folks, my name is Ben. I am an Akita mix. I think I am going to be 6 years old this year. I am a chunky 75 lbs. I came up from Texas a couple of years ago; rescued from a scary place and dang it if I didn't get put in a backyard kennel in Missouri for over a year where I was fed good but got no treatment for my infected ears and injured leg. I got no socialization or grooming or hugs. Never left my pen until 6 months ago when I was taken to a better place to get neutered, vaccinated, ears treated and my leg healed.

I am looking for an even better place to hang my leash and call it home. I do not want to share that house with cats. My best playmate right now is a female, 23 pound Chow mix. My second favorite friend is a 150 lb Great Dane. I'm not too particular as long as my playmates are not aggressive. I try to avoid confrontation but when push comes to shove I stand my ground.

Your home should offer me a fenced yard to putter in and a soft place inside too. I do not climb fences nor dig under them. I don't bark much at all unless it's a cat or rabbit walking by. I love to go for car rides and I enjoy a good brushing a couple of times a week. You should study up on my breed characteristics. I can be aloof, like a cat. I don't like being grabbed or forced to do stuff. Gentle coaxing mixed with patience works for me. I like short walks but I'm not very athletic and I need work on my leash skills. My foster mom says I must be treated the way all dogs should be treated, with respect.

There are no children where I live now. I suspect I would do best in an adults only household. I am housebroken and don't really need a crate. I will go in one if led into it with a leash and asked nicely. My foster mom understands my needs and works with me every day to improve. If you want a handsome buddy that isn't an in your face type and doesn't require much to make me happy (chew bones, car rides, brushings) I'm waiting to hear from you.

My adoption fee is $150 and includes my spay/neuter, vaccinations, wellness exam, heartworm test, and microchip!
