Lola Poodle Baton Rouge, LA

UPDATE: Lola is doing great with her resource guarding. She is much better with her toys and is learning to share. She is still working on not guarding her food around other dogs/people.

Lola is a 1.5 year old poodle/Tennessee walker show horse/gazelle. She prances when she walks and leaps on all fours when she runs. This adorable girl had a really hard start in life. She was rescued after Hurricane Harvey from a puppy mill. She had never been groomed and her fur and skin were literally peeling off (thus the very close haircut). She also seemed to have been starved. She was completely terrified of everything but wanted so badly to please. Since being in foster care her personality is blossoming. She loves to play with toys she had no idea what they were before coming into rescue and working on fetch (some toys she will bring back others she loves to play a good game of chase with).
Because of her rough start she does have some special needs: she is a resource guarder. Meaning due to her past and never knowing when her next meal was coming she tends to guard her food/bones/treats. We have been working with her and she has made immense improvements but she still has a long way to go. She will need an experienced owner that understands these issues and willing to work with her to overcome these bad manners (not just feel sorry for her and let the behavior escalate but also be patient while letting her work through them while developing trust).
Due to this we are asking for puppy mill/resource guarding experienced owners only as well as homes without kids under 16. This adorable girl wants to please and with time, diligence, patience and little assertive positive reinforcement will be the pup she is meant to be.
