Meet Sassafras and Birch
Birch and Sassafrass are looking for a home together.
Sassafrass is the male orange kitten and Birch is a female tiger kitten. They are approximately 9 weeks old now. In the last photo, from left to right these adorable kittens are Birch, Sassafrass, and Willow.
It is hard to imagine these tiny kittens outside living in a trash-strewn alley but that is indeed where their mother cat must have been trying to keep them safe while she hunted for food. Six kittens all waiting for her to come back to feed and protect them. Once they arrived at the shelter they went into a loving foster home that has worked with them to help them turn from fearful to friendly. Last week sister Maple left the nest first to be adopted. This week it is the rest of the "tree" group to find their families.
Our foster family believes these 2 kittens would do best going to the same home as they play and sleep side by side. They still a way to go in being 100% friendly. We need individuals who understand they need to continue holding them often, cuddling and reassuring them and of course playing with them. Shy kittens do best in one small room so they do not hide, a radio or TV left one when the owner is out and making the time to sit with them several times a day. It is magic to see the transformation from shy to open trusting eyes. If you have a cat-friendly dog or cat that can help also. Children under 10 usually don't understand why their new kitten won't come out and play right away.

If a cat or kitten is listed on our website, that means that cat is still available for adoption. The Shelter is staffed primarily by volunteers so adoption meetings take place on Saturdays from 11 - 1:00 during adoption hours, or by appointment. Our kitten adoption fee (cats up to 6 months old) is $160 for a single kitten or $260 for a pair. The adoption fee includes age-appropriate vaccines, dewormer, microchip, combo testing (for FeLV and FIV) and spaying/neutering when old enough.
