Meet Bishop

Introducing BISHOP:: 2 years old, 11 lbs, Neutered Male Shih Tzu/Yorkie mix.

Available for adoption!

PLEASE READ MY BIO BEFORE COMPLETING AN APPLICATION.

This handsome little sweetheart found himself facing euthanasia in a high kill shelter after he had been adopted from there and returned for biting. Upon meeting him in the shelter, he also bit one of the employees working there when she startled him while he was playing. Fortunately, we were able to sign a Bite History Waiver, and rescue him from being euthanized.

The waiver indicates that we must disclose his bite history with his adopters.

Bishop has been in his foster home for over six weeks now while we continue to evaluate his behavior. His foster family reports that he is super affectionate and sweet, and very well mannered in the home. He gets along great with their other dogs, he is housebroken, crate trained, friendly to strangers who approach on walks and he excitedly accepts petting and affection from them. He rarely barks at anything, and is overall, the perfect little dog.

However, Bishop can get upset/scared and he will growl to let you know he is upset, but sometimes it is followed up with a bite. This has only happened once in his foster home, but they have taken the time to bond with him and earn his trust and he has not shown any of this behavior towards them since. He loves to be held and snuggled and thoroughly enjoys long car rides.

He will need a patient family who is understanding of this and experienced with this sort of behavior so they can continue working on it with him, gain his trust and give him positive reinforcers to motivate and maintain good behavior.

Bishop would do best in a quiet home without small children.

Contrary to popular belief, Bishop, and other Shih Tzu mixes, DO shed and he will require regular grooming.

Bishop also has a level 2 heart murmur but does not currently require medication or special care for it, and may never require it. However, as he grows older, there is a chance it could progress and require medication. We are also treating Bishop for skin allergies.

Adoption area for Bishop is within a one hour radius of Cincinnati.

$150 adoption fee includes his neuter, current vaccines (DAPP/Bordatella), heartworm test (negative), current on heartworm and flea prevention (Trifexis), deworming, and micropchip.
