Meet Tommy Chandler

Meet TOMMY CHANDLER:: SPECIAL NEEDS PUP, AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION.

Chandler:: 6 months old, Golden Retriever and German Shepherd Dog mix.

Little Chandler has been diagnosed with Megaesophagus, a generalized enlargement of the esophagus with a decreased to absent motility. In other words, he cannot swallow food or liquids on his own and will regurgitate everything without assistance. Chandler was born with this condition and he would have died without proper intervention. Most shelters (and even some rescues) would have had him euthanized. Please research this condition before applying to adopt.

Peppermint Pig Animal Rescue is a 100% No-Kill animal rescue. We are willing to do whatever it takes to keep Chandler happy and healthy, and most importantly, alive.

Chandler is being fed in Bailey Chair* (photo examples of chair are provided). Chandler will come with his customized Bailey Chair when adopted. The chair will allow gravity to move the food into his stomach and keep it there long enough to begin digesting. Chandler must sit upright for ALL feedings and liquids. He MUST remain upright for a minimum of 30 minutes after each feeding/liquids session, or it will all be regurgitated and the process will have to start again.

Chandler also takes several medications to help prevent regurgitation, damage to his esophagus, to prevent pneumonia from regurgitation.

Chandler's care will be lifelong, but we have seen plenty of people raise pups successfully with this condition, who live a long, happy life. He will need a very dedicated adopter who is experience in caring for a special needs dog. If you are interested in adopting Chandler, please thoroughly research his condition and the care involved.

Aside from this condition, Chandler is a regular puppy. He loves to play, is very affectionate, loves other dogs, people and children, and is very intelligent and easy to train.

We do not expect that Chandler will be adopted right away because of his condition, and any donations would be greatly appreciated!

LOCAL adopters only, a FENCED YARD, and experience with special needs dog is REQUIRED to adopt.

$150 adoption fee has been sponsored by UCB Buffy Project and includes his initial intake vetting, neuter, current vaccines (DALPP/Bordatella), current on heartworm and flea prevention (Trifexis), dewormings, and micropchip.
