Meet Bella

This poor little girl was found Aug 1st at the Weiser State Forest near Numidia/Catawissa. She was found in parking lot near the lake by road construction workers. They believe someone dropped her off there because they had never seen her there before, but she stayed in the parking lot like she was waiting for someone to come back for her. They could not get close to her, so they called ARC for help.

We were told she was bunking down under a large flat bed trailer. And yep, that's where we found her. Luckily, there was an open space on the trailer right above where she was laying. A slip lead was looped around her head. She was not happy, and gave us a little grumble, as we pulled her to the surface of the trailer. Once her feet hit the ground though, she seemed to know we were there to help and we could almost immediately see the fear drain from her as relief overcame her. It was as if she knew her previous family was not coming back for her, but that maybe we wanted her, truly, wanted her.

She was coaxed into a comfy SUV lined with blankets, a doggie bed, and best of all, shade! Flea dermatitis left parts of her face, ears, & back bare so the Sun was extra brutal on this poor soul. She was given some water and some left over pancakes from the rescuers breakfast. On the ride to the shelter, she was ordered a chicken snack wrap from Wendy's. She politely ate and drank all that was offered to her (see video).

Upon arriving at the shelter, she was given a medicated bath, flea medicine, and a nail trimming which she was surprisingly calm for. She appeared grateful. It was difficult for her to walk considering some of her nails were so long, they actually overlapped (see pic)! The next day she saw the vet who gave her a lot of medicine to help her skin heal and fur begin to return. She is due for a vet recheck the middle of Aug. She is about 35 lbs and our vet believes she is about 5 yrs old and possibly a Beagle/Black Lab mix.

The men who found her at the site called her Bella, so Bella it is. Her first morning meeting new people standing outside her kennel was scary for her, but as her rescuer appeared and helped her emerge from her kennel, she made friends with the new people quickly. She has been a people friendly girl ever since. Bella does not like other dogs at the moment. Probably tied outside most of her life and unsocialized. It appears she had pups at least once. We are working on acclimating her to other dogs and she is slowly coming along. She is making friends with a dog named Moose as they go on walks together. Bella is also barking less at other dogs at the shelter. Her total transformation will take time and we will help her every step of the way! To help financially with Bella's care please donate at our website, www.nokillarc.org , and leave a note that the donation is for sweet Bella.

Bella is vaccinated, spayed, had blood parasite screening, & is micro chipped. If you are interested in becoming a permanent part of Bella's transformation & family, please contact Mary at 570-204-2491 or Mary@nokillarc.org. Please tell a little bit about yourself.
