Meet Avery

Dog Name: Avery
Gender: Male
Age: 5 years old
Size-Weight: 65 lb.
Color: Tan and white
Breed: English Setter
Socialization-training..Avery loves to socialize with people and kids. Trained to sit, wait, and down. He is great in the car and loves to go for rides.

Good with Children.. Great with kids, especially if they will play fetch with him.

Good with Dogs.. Avery enjoys playing with other dogs that he knows after proper introduction and enjoys living with another dog. He likes to play-wrestle with his canine family member.

Good with Cats.. Yes, he has lived well with a confident cat.

House trained.. Completely. He has had a dog door with access to fully fenced yard.

Crate trained.. No. he has had free access to the home

Leash trained.. Somewhat. He is used to a front-clip harness but has not spent a great deal of time on leash and could use a refresher course.

Activity Level: Moderately High. Avery has a classic Setter temperament: active outside and laid back in the house. He is not birdy, however. His focus is on fetching his ball and loving his people. He loves hiking, taking long walks, and chasing squirrels. He is less active in the heat and does very well in cold temperatures.

Fence: A large, secured fenced in yard is required.

Behavior: Avery has a wonderful temperament. He is soft and gentle, loving and cuddly. He does not have a high prey drive unless the prey in question is a ball ...squeaky Kong balls are his favorite, coupled with a chuck-it.... With some exercise, he is very relaxed indoors. He likes to be close to his people and will follow you around the house. He is not overly food motivated and does not resource-guard but will counter surf if given the chance. He is a favorite at the vet as he is extremely easy to handle.

Medical History.. Avery is in very good health. He is allergic to beef. He takes Apoquel for seasonal allergies.

Comments.. Avery is very bright and easy to train with the reward of playtime with a ball. As a sensitive, gentle boy, he would not do well with punitive or dominance-based training or handling of any sort. He loves to be brushed and loved on, walks right into the shower at bath time when asked. and prefers to sleep with his people if allowed. He would do best with a canine brother or sister or people who are home often, as he has not spent large amounts of time alone. Avery is not comfortable in a dog park-type environment so they are best avoided. He is gentle, happy, and has a big heart.

Avery has been in one home with another dog, cat, and children since being adopted from rescue at 8 weeks old. He is a loyal, loving companion whose family has to downsize into circumstances that would not be appropriate for his needs. If you are looking for a great companion Avery's your guy..
