Meet Marla

Chihuahua lovers out there, have we got a girl for you! Marla is a sassy and spirited girl who is smart, brave and has tons of personality rolled up into a 5-pound package. This gorgeous gal has a short white coat with lots of black spots and tan eyebrows, and a bit of bowlegged stance that makes her look extra tough. In her foster home, it took Marla a couple weeks to adapt to truly adapt to her new space, routine and canine foster siblings. You see, Marla appears to be hearing impaired and therefore needs time to get to know and trust her people before she feels truly comfortable that no one is going to sneak up and frighten her. Therefore, she will need someone who is willing to give her a little bit of time and patience (and love of course) to show her new person what a wonderful girl she really is. Once she had the lay of the land, Marla’s top priority was to be around her humans. Her foster mom tells her every day that she is the most loyal and loving dog ever! She gets along fine with other dogs (in her foster home her new canine friends were as large as 35 pounds) and would likely do equally well with cats. In terms of a canine family members, she would fit best with a neutral-personality small to medium sibling who will ignore a bit of bluster. She is around six years old, with a happy, exuberant energy that makes her seem much younger. She loves to go for long walks in the neighborhood and hikes in the woods, and is terrific on a leash… she’ll also ride happily in a pouch or carrier, really, anything as long as she’s with her human. She is a top notch snuggle buddy and loves to burrow under blankets or into laps while her people are reading, napping, working at the computer or watching a good movie. She is a big help in the kitchen – if anything hits the floor she makes sure to clean it right up. If her humans want to travel, Marla wants them to know she’s portable and ready to join in on any adventure. She is crate trained but needs ongoing help with housebreaking, including a regular schedule, as this is not a skill that was enforced in her early life. With the cold weather coming, she’d be happy for a collection of adorable coats and sweaters. Marla’s ideal forever family is an adult-only, laid back home where she can give and receive lots of love and attention. She definitely prefers women, but eventually her foster dad won her over and she loves cuddling with him too. As with many Chihuahuas, Marla’s not afraid to push boundaries to see what she might get away with and so is looking for someone who will make sure she understands and follows the rules. She is such a special, loving girl and is looking for an equally special and loving person to share her life with. If Marla sounds like she might be a perfect girl for you, please set up some time to meet her today!

All puppies and dogs at Saving Grace are crate trained, have been spayed/neutered, are up to date on their shots, are on heartworm preventative and have been microchipped. Their adoption fee is $350.00. Each has been carefully screened for disposition and temperament in order to provide your home with a safe companion that will enjoy life as your new family member.

If you are interested in meeting one of our dogs, please e-mail a completed Adoption Application to savinggrace@savinggracenc.org. An Application is required before setting up an appointment to meet with a foster home and potential adoptee.

The Adoption Application and Adoption Contract can be downloaded from the Petfinder Homepage or our new website at www.savinggracenc.org or by clicking on the links below: Click here to download an adoption request today. Click here to download an adoption contract. Click to see our events! Sending an Application does not commit you to an adoption, it simply provides us with background information on potential homes. Please review our Adoption Contract before sending an Application to ensure that you will be able to provide the requirements stated in the contract. The Contract must be signed at the time of adoption.

Saving Grace is a small, non-profit 501-C3 organization operated by volunteers only. Most of our animals come from rural animal control shelters where lack of space and resources limit their time and adoption possibilities. Thank you for choosing Saving Grace! We look forward to helping you find your new companion and family member.
