Meet Magic: Special Dietary Needs

Magic is a sweet young cat who was surrendered to the shelter by his previous home with reported urinary health issues. Magic, who is FIV+, is actually a very healthy cat who was suffering from crystals in his urine, and probably had urinary tract infections that could easily have been treated had he seen a vet. When he saw the shelter’s vet, they detected what could have developed into a bladder stone, but it was caught and removed before it became serious. After a couple of weeks of convalescing and observation, he is healed and healthy and ready to go home with someone who can give him the love and compassion he has always deserved.

Due to his urinary tract history, Magic is now on a combination of a prescription dry food and regular canned food to prevent further issues. A cat his size will eat about 1 cup of dry and 1 can per day, so if his adopter buys online, the cost to feed him will be less than $1.50 per day.

This large, 3-year-old kitty is already a shelter darling — despite the cavalier manner in which he was surrendered to the shelter due to his health issues, it is clear Magic received love, because he is so fond of the volunteers. And now that he is done convalescing and can get out to play, we can see how much he delights in chasing toys around the room. He is respectful and submissive to the other shelter cats, so we know he will assimilate easily into a home with other cats. And though he is FIV+, he is in very good health — most cats afflicted with FIV live full, healthy lives, free of any special medications, and it is not easily transferred between neutered cats like Magic. He tested well with dogs, and his gentle, happy disposition would make him a great companion for children. He is current on vaccinations and tested negative for feline leukemia.

If you think you can provide him the care and love he deserves, email ClayvilleCritters@cox.net for more information, or call (401) 647-7200 to speak to our animal control officers about his medical care and needs. You can also meet Magic at the shelter during regular visiting hours: Tuesday through Friday 7 to 11 am, and Saturday 10 am to 3 pm.
