Rescued from the Ramona Animal Shelter as a community stray, Colleen is a great dog for anyone who wants a little companion hanging around with them. She is very calm and happy-go-lucky. She loves people and the attention they give her. She is very loving and enjoys sitting right next to her person or people and relaxing. She is fine with all dogs, and in her foster home, one of her good friends is an 85 lb. chocolate lab named Trooper. The two of them get along well, and she follows him all over the house. She really enjoys playing with her people too, and will chase a ball and bring it back to you!

Colleen is a sweet, quiet, gentle, loving and affectionate companion and lap dog. She loves to lavish you with kisses! She has spurts of play with other small dogs, but I would not consider her to be overly playful with other dogs. She is still mostly about people. When I first met Colleen at the shelter, she jumped straight up in my lap and settled in, though she did not know me. I was only going to pull two dogs that day, so I put her back in her kennel, but whenever I continued to walk by, she kept looking at me eagerly with her big eyes as if to say, “Aren’t you taking me with you?” She was just so sweet and precious that I could not leave her behind.

Colleen is a five-year-old Chihuahua/Italian Greyhound mix who weighs about 9 lbs. She is a fairly easy to manage dog. She is crate-trained and potty trained (however potty reinforcement is needed in any new environment) and sleeps in her crate quietly at night. She walks fine on the leash and is small enough to take her places with you. We have no young kids to test Colleen with but there is nothing about Colleen that would make us think that she would not be fine with kids, though she seems to prefer a quieter home than a rowdy one. Like most dogs, she is a Velcro dog that enjoys sitting on a pet bed near you while you are working, or cuddling with you in your lap, couch or even the human bed. Colleen will follow you around and settle in whatever room that you are in. She currently lives in one of our foster homes where there are two cats. A plus is that she does alert bark primarily only when there is reason to do so.

The best fit for Colleen would be a more or less chill home where Colleen can enjoy hanging with her people, with folks who are not gone from home for long hours on a daily basis. She is fine with all other dogs, so another dog of any size is fine (as long as that dog is polite to little dogs), possibly even a cat. I consider Colleen to be an easy dog that can adapt to many environments, if she is properly supported. (All rescued dogs must be primarily indoor dogs, never to be excluded to the outdoors only; therefore, dog doors are a huge plus! A crate on-hand would be beneficial for Colleen during a transitional phase to a new place, but eventually she can be left loose and overall, she does not seem to have a strong need for a crate.)

Colleen is spayed, fully vaccinated (including rabies), Front-lined, dewormed, and micro-chipped, and has had a complete dental cleaning.
