Duke Australian Cattle Dog / Blue Heeler & Dachshund Mix Grove City, OH

Hi my name is "Duke", formally "Trapper John". Before I knew how wonderful being loved and having a full tummy was, I had to be trapped to be caught. I have seen the good life though, and while I still love the outdoors, I love to cuddle up with my foster family and their two dogs even more- I don't even chase the cat! I get to play with the neighbor kids each day too, so I would like to have a kid to play with in my new home, but that is negotiable.
I am about a year and half old dachshund healer mix weighing in at 25lbs, with the most gentle disposition. My foster family says that I'm a "Very mellow guy". I do love a good wag of my tail that wiggles my back end. I am also gentle with little kids. I am crate trained and house broken. A fenced in yard would be a big plus as I do love to chase bunnies and a might be considered a flight risk.
Duke is in the process of finishing up being treated for heartworms. He's a young guy and the infection was caught early and he will make a full recovery. Because of this, he will remain under the ownership of the rescue until his treatment has been completed. This is no reason for Duke not to find his forever family though and we would love to see him in a "foster to adopt family" where he can start the next phase of his life. His adoption donation is $250 to help cover some of the costs that have been incurred during his time in rescue, including neutering, vaccinations, microchipping, flea prevention and his heartworm treatment.
