Ozzie is a super sweet, very cute, 12 lb. one-year-old Dachshund/Miniature Pinscher mix who was rescued from the Ramona Animal Shelter. He has the typical black and tan markings of many Dachshunds and Min Pins, but with some white on his chest, so technically, he is tri-colored. His coat is shiny and healthy. His ears go upward sometimes, or, when really relaxed, flop downward. A lot of people do not gravitate to black dogs, and black dogs tend to sit in shelters longer, but Ozzie is CUTE. And again, this is the typical coloring for these breeds. Black dogs also need a chance!

Ozzie approaches people readily, is very friendly and affectionate, and is also good with other dogs. He loves toys, and is so cute in that multiple toys become missing from the community toy basket, only for me to find them stashed inside Ozzie’s sleeping crate! He enjoys carrying toys in his mouth and also playing with the other small dogs of the rescue (see video). Ozzie is a fairly relaxed, chill little dude, and he is also very quiet (I have not heard him bark yet!). Sometimes, I catch Ozzie licking my feet underneath my desk while I am working!

Ozzie is doing well with his potty training and he is quite crate-trained (at the rescue, dogs are crated to eat, sleep, and if I have to leave for a bit) and Ozzie does very well, not making a peep when it comes time to be crated or it is bedtime. He walks OK on the leash but also wants to bite at it, so more practice is needed there. Essentially, Ozzie is a fairly well-socialized and friendly pup that can likely adapt to several environments. We have not tested him with kids, but I have a feeling he would be fine. I do not know if he would play with kids, but nothing about him strikes me as scary or worrisome for kids, and cats are a complete unknown.

The home we seek for Ozzie is a home with another dog of any age to either keep him company when folks are gone from home, or with another young and playful friendly pup to be his playmate, OR, as an only dog whereby the people are not gone for long extensive hours on a daily basis. Ozzie is obviously comfortable with dogs, but his love for humans is equal or even greater, so I would not necessarily object to him being an only dog in the home as I long as I thought that the home represented a good fit for Ozzie. The main thing is that if people are gone all day long every day, it is nicer for all of the dogs if they had some company. (All rescued dogs must be primarily indoor dogs, never to be excluded to the outdoors only; dog doors are a huge plus! A crate on-hand would be beneficial for Ozzie, for eating, sleeping, and when folks are away from home, but eventually, he can be weaned off of one once an adopter feels he is ready.)

Ozzie is neutered, fully vaccinated (including rabies), Front-lined, dewormed, and micro-chipped.
