Dusty is a one-year-old Parson (Jack) Russell Terrier/unknown Terrier mix rescued from the Ramona Animal Shelter. He weighs about 13-15 lbs. Dusty has a very soft wire-haired low shedding coat, (he may even be hypoallergenic), tallish legs and longer body. Both ears do go downward, but when he gets excited, his right ear tends to rise up. He is a smart puppy, picking up the routine quickly, (for example, he learned the dog door right away!).

Dusty LOVES other dogs. In the world of dogs, he is very comfortable. He enjoys playing with dogs, wrestling, chasing, playing with toys, etc. He also enjoys running all over the yard. Dusty is crate-trained, and does VERY WELL. He sleeps quietly in his 36 inch wire crate at night, and is crated if I have to leave the house for a bit. (All rescued dogs must be primarily indoor dogs, never to be excluded to the outdoors only; dog doors are a huge plus! A crate on-hand would be beneficial for Dusty during a transitional phase to a new place, but eventually he can be weaned away from crating when left unsupervised once deemed suitable).

In the human world, Dusty is shy and timid but has improved since coming to rescue. Though completely submissive towards humans, it is clear that Dusty derives his confidence and comfort from the other dog in the home, and has learned to be more trusting of humans by modeling the other dogs. He is a happy dog that can play and have fun, but can also chill out and relax. He is also a very quiet dog. He now approaches me readily and comes seeking affection or to offer licks and kisses. He also follows me around to see what I am doing, wagging his tail. He does not yet walk on the leash. He will need some time and confidence building but we are confident that he will pick this up by following the other dog’s lead at some point.

The home we seek for Dusty is one where the adopters are looking to find a doggie companion and playmate for their already existing young pup. The dog needs to be friendly and accepting of a submissive puppy. Dusty seems to gravitate to smaller dogs; he plays with Sidney, who is between 20 and 22 lbs. (Sidney and he can possibly even be adopted together providing an adopter has had two dogs in the past, and has some dog experience . They play with toys and chase each other and have fun throughout the day!) So if you are seeking a fairly easy to manage, sweet doggie companion for your already existing dog, (but one where you do not mind that he will still need some time and patience to fully come around), please consider Dusty! Note: Please have another dog in your home to express an interest in Dusty! ?

Dusty is neutered, fully vaccinated (including rabies), Front-lined, dewormed, and micro-chipped. If you are interested in Dusty, please contact Angel’s Heart Dog Rescue at: adopt@angelsheartdogrescue.com. The phone number to the rescue is: 626-340-9316.
