Nell Siberian Husky & Australian Shepherd Mix Louisville, KY

Nell was the only girl - and the last remaining pup - from a litter of three puppies born in early January 2017 and taken to a high-kill rural county shelter. All the other shelter was able to tell us was that the pups were "probably Husky mixes." Although Nell has beautiful blue eyes, her build, coat, and coloring are more like that of a collie or an Aussie but, short of a DNA test, there's no way to know her exact breed make-up. Accordingly, we can't say how big she'll be as an adult but we think it's safe to say she'll be medium to large once she's done growing. Like most puppies, Nell can be a little shy initially but give her a couple of minutes and her boisterous, playful personality will come out. And, like most puppies, Nell is playful, high energy, and loves to chew anything she can get her mouth on or in her mouth - which means she will need to be closely supervised to keep her safe and out of trouble. Because she's very mouthy right now, Nell wouldn't be a good choice if she'll be around young children or children who aren't used to puppies as she could easily injure or frighten them even though she'd just be playing. Nell also likes to play in her water bowl - a LOT - and it's been a challenge finding a receptacle that she won't immediately empty. While she is good at using the newspaper to potty, Nell's new owner should have the experience, time and patience to work with her on house-training and all the other important things a growing pup needs to learn. Raising a puppy isn't easy but all the challenges are worth it because, if you do it correctly, you'll be rewarded with a well-mannered and devoted companion that will adore you until its last breath.
