Meet Santos

Santos Is a Sweet Companion Looking for a Special Home
3-year-old, white, large, male, German Shepherd
Good with other dogs: Females only
Good with children: No
Good with cats: No

Santos started off in a rough situation as just a young pup. His owner, who purchased him in Germany and brought him to the United States, abused Santos. Such a sad story. He was surrendered to Saving Paws after the owner wanted to euthanize him because he’d created some fear and aggression issues with his abuse. But Santos has come a long way! And he’s a very sweet, cuddly boy that will truly enrich the lives of patient and experienced owners.
Santos is a special dog who has had extensive, in-depth training, which has resolved most of his fear and anxiety issues. His owners are getting ready for a new baby in the home and Santos is still very protective, which isn’t a great situation for a new baby. Santos does need to go to a home with no children because he is overly protective.
This gorgeous boy would be an ideal companion for someone who lives in a quiet home without a lot of visitors and activity, which tend to aggravate Santos and make him feel overly protective. He gets along wonderfully with female dogs, but not so much with males.
Santos is housebroken and crate trained and walks well on a leash. He’s a very sweet dog that loves to curl up on the sofa with his people. And his favorite hobbies are chasing birds and playing ball. He just loves belly rubs and putting his head in your lap for cuddles.
The nearly two years of training have really improved the anxiety and fear he had when he first came to Saving Paws. He’s wonderful on a leash, but still wary of strangers. So any potential adopters will need to be willing to work with him when taking him out or having guests in the home. He gets very protective of his home and his owners. He also resource guards, so will need to be fed separately and with some caution. But once he’s done eating, he’s just fine.
If you are an experienced owner with a quiet home and female dog(s), and are interested in giving Santos a spot on your sofa, please fill out our online application to get the approval process started. We will only schedule meet and greets with an approved application. All staff members are volunteers and are not compensated for their time and expenses. Many juggle family and full-time careers while volunteering at Saving Paws. Please be patient, as sometimes it takes up to 5 days to process an application.
