Meet Lily

Lily is going to her new home on March 31st!

Lily has been returned to us because she was not good with the family's cat. She was also very anxious when she was left alone. The family that adopted her loved her, and she slept in bed with the daughter and waited at the children's bedroom door in the morning so she could see them first thing. She also had separation anxiety and wasn't able to tolerate being in a crate and actually broke through several of them. She will lay in her crate comfortably if the door is left open and people are nearby. She is accustomed to having a dog door and a fenced yard and we think she might need that set up in her next home, or she needs owners that are around most of the time.

Lily is a purebred Husky who is about to turn 2 years old. Her owner bought her as a puppy and she has been living with two Corgis and doing fine until recently when she and the female Corgi started to fight. She still gets along with the male Corgi. She is housebroken and is used to having a dog door that goes out to a fenced yard. It would be ideal for her if her next home also has a fenced yard, since Huskies are notorious escape artists. She has not lived with kids but has had some exposure to them. Her owner thinks she would be fine with kids ages 12 and up. She is extremely affectionate and loves to be with people. She is also very smart and started learning basic commands in one session with a volunteer. Huskies are not the right breed for everyone, so if you don't know the breed, please do a little research before applying for Lily.

We give priority to people that fill out our adoption application, so if you are interested in meeting one of our dogs, that is the first step. E-mail inquiries about a dog are not considered an application.

If a dog is listed on our website, that means that dog is still available for adoption. The Shelter is staffed primarily by volunteers so adoption meetings take place on Saturdays from 11 - 1:00 during adoption hours, or by appointment. Our dog adoption fee for dogs 5 years old or younger is $350. Every dog we place is vaccinated, wormed, treated for ticks/fleas, tested for heartworm and Lyme and spayed/neutered prior to adoption. We send each dog home with a collar and leash and a month's worth of heartworm preventative. If a dog is listed on our website, they are still available for adoption. Please fill out the adoption application if you would like to be considered for a dog you see in our care.

With very few exceptions, dogs are happiest and the most well-behaved when they receive daily exercise and ongoing training, so we always prefer to place our dogs with families who are willing to make a commitment to both.
