There's no question that Durango has some Lab in him but his red coloring means he might have some other breed in him, too. Although he was very shy on lead when he first arrived at our shelter, Durango has been loving and outgoing from day one. In early January of 2017, he weighed 31-lbs and, with an estimated date of birth of March 2016, he may still have a little more growing to do. If you're familiar with Labs, you know that they don't outgrow a lot of puppy behavior until they are at least two or three years old and Durango is no different.Turns out this guy can climb like a monkey! Even our 6-foot kennels aren't much of a challenge so we have to make sure he's in a covered kennel when he's outside. What this means to an owner is that your yard is going to need at least a 6-foot wood privacy fence and, even then, we can't promise that would contain him. Some of his Houdini behavior might diminish as Durango matures but his new owner is going to have to be diligent about being outside with him to make sure he doesn't take a hankering to checking out the neighborhood as he can be pretty determined. An active owner who will keep Durango well-exercised both physically and mentally would be ideal for this sweet fella and, because he craves attention, he'd truly enjoy being included in as many activities as possible. Durango is quick to seek out your affection and returns the love twofold. He's just a really nice dog.
