Meet GREER

The three G’s had a very rough life prior to their rescue, and although we can’t be sure what exactly they endured while out on their own, we know for a fact that their fragile psyches took quite a beating. The trio was initially so shy that just walking into the intake suite elicited tremors and trembles from each of them, as human contact in any way, shape or form was absolutely terrifying. I wouldn’t say that they are feral in nature, just incredibly wary of affection; for weeks after their arrival in fact, for the most part you had to get down on all fours and be at eye level, then gently reach out and sloooowly draw each cat near you to gently force attention upon them. It has taken massive amounts of patience and perseverance to reassure siblings Granger, Greer and Gregor (born in May of 2015) that the hands that feed them will also be the ones to caress their cares away and stroke their fur until they close their eyes and drift off into a peaceful slumber. No worries though, as we have absolutely NO time limit here at Crash’s, so the timid trio can take their sweet time coming out of their stunning shells and into their own!
Since the majority of my time these days is spent tending to our kitties’ medical needs, I asked our Cat Care Director to enlighten me on the family’s personalities and progress, and here is what she had to say at the time of their biography writing (1-1-17):
“Greer and Granger are inseparable, they absolutely need to go together. Whenever Greer gets scared, she runs to her brother and literally lays on top of him. Gregor mostly hangs out by himself. Greer and Granger are doing very well, they both will come out of their hiding spots with a little coaxing. Gregor is still very scared and often shakes nonstop during any human interaction, although if you stay with him long enough he will let you scratch under his chin and rub his ears. You will most often find him hiding out in the big pink, plastic egg bed/cubby that he has claimed as his personal comfort zone:) He shouldn't be an only cat, he needs somebody to boost his confidence. All three are going to take a lot of work, but I do think they have a lot of love to give to somebody who is willing to earn their trust.

All three are still incredibly shy, but if you sit in their room for a while and talk softly to them they will eventually calm down. Granger is the first one to come out and Greer will follow him anywhere he goes. Gregor will eventually let you rub his belly and will give headbutts from the safety of his bed. Greer and Granger can be bribed with catnip to come out of their hiding spots and they are growing quite fond of the laser pointer. All three are very bonded together, but again, Greer and Granger absolutely cannot be split up. Calming collars (pheromones) and anti-anxiety meds are being used to help ease their stress levels, and although they don’t seem to be having any sort of profound effect, they are probably taking the edge off, therefore allowing the volunteers to handle them a bit more. ANYTHING we can do to make them feel at home is worth a try!”

So as you can plainly see, these three are quite special and will require an equally special person to take a chance on them and offer them the comfort and security they crave. Watching each cat blossom will be quite an amazing transformation to behold, I guarantee it!
