Meet JOHN MONROE

It is always bittersweet when one of our adopted cats has to come back to us, as although we are over the moon to welcome him or her back into our furry fold, what we want more than anything for each of our cats is to have a forever home. Sometimes that dream come true gets interrupted; such is the case of one of the most laid-back, affectionate, almost dog-like (in a good way!) cats to ever wander the halls of Big Sid’s, our sanctuary for cats with FIV or Feline Leukemia. Initially brought to us in November of 2011, jovial John Monroe lasted only two short months as a resident ‘Sid’s Kid’ as he was (and IS) just that awesome! He lived happily and harmoniously with one of our former volunteers and friend of mine, her young daughter, and a posse of other pussycats for 4 blissful years. He was known to sleep, groom and play constantly with his companions, reveling in glory of simply being a part of such a fabulous feline family. His mom states that he is one the ‘freaking’ nicest cats ever, gets along with everyone and is the most affectionate of all of her kitties; his only character flaw is that he is TOO NICE when it comes to feeding time, allowing the others to push him out of the way and eat all of his grub! Since he only has a few teeth, it was very important that John get to chow down to his bloomin’ hearts content, so separate dining accommodations were made so that the big, beautiful boy of 15# was able to keep his weight up to support his gorgeous, graceful frame! It is an understatement to say that he adored his human mom, pining away for her while she was at work, waiting in the windowsill when he sensed it was time for her to arrive home. Everyone who visited the house was impressed by just how friendly this fine fella (born in November of 2007) was to those who crossed his path, lent him a lap and allowed him to slobber on them; when he is happy—which is ALL of the time—he drools...like a lot:)

Bringing him back to Sid’s was no easy task for his mom, and she worried that he wouldn’t adjust; thankfully her fears were laid to rest, as John waltzed on in and acted as if he had never left! He now has dozens of volunteers salivating over him on a daily basis—and he is soaking up the attention like a sponge! Once again, the comparison to a pup prevails, as many have commented on his resemblance to a famous cartoon canine: Deputy Dawg! His looks are very interesting and unique, befitting such an mellow and laid-back fellow who knows what he wants in life and isn’t shy about following you around in his adorable, love-sick way, totally enamored by every move you make and every single pet you bestow upon him. I know I speak for all of us when I say that we are absolutely loving every minute spent in John’s company, and I have no doubt that we will be able to find this cool, collected, charismatic cat a home of his own again. Since he only has 4 choppers to speak of and isn’t a nipper or biter in the least (and lived with multiple non-FIV+ cats for years), cohabiting with other kitties is just what this doctor has ordered; John wants to be surrounded by paws and fur, have tails to swat at and chase and snuggle-buddies to hunker down and dream sweetly with!
