Meet SCHERZER

Many of you who read our kitties bios will recognize the name Mickie Campbell, as she is single-handledly responsible for rescuing dozens of cats from a very precarious situation on the NE side of town. Last fall she discovered the plight of families of felines who had been evicted from their government subsidized housing when their owners moved out and left them behind. With the buildings slated for destruction within the very near future, she took it upon herself to corral and coerce as many kitties as she could into her care. Further more, she made sure every single cat she took in was tested, spayed and neutered and rehomed or put on our waiting list. There are simply not enough words I could use to express my deepest gratitude to this remarkable woman who went above and beyond, time and time again, to save those so desperately in need.

Scherzer was one of the last we took into our adoption program, not because we didn't want to, but because we simply didn't have the room until January 22nd 2014. See, this beautiful bi-color-eyed boy tested positive for FIV, and since our sanctuary is always at capacity at 130 cats, we had to wait until one of our cats left the program in order to have a spot open up. And since our waiting list is typically at least 25 cats or more long, well, intake creeps along at a snail's pace. Mickie had made an appointment for this four year old fella at the vet clinic, as he was having some medical issues she wanted me to assess. As luck would have it, not only did I fix what ailed him (he needed several teeth extracted and had a massive bilateral ear infection) but I sent her home with just a (EMPTY!) cat carrier this time around:)

I have to admit that I was immediately taken by Scherzer's stunning, unique good looks! After all, it isn't often that a cat boasts the same blue right eye and gold left eye as a baseball great! And of course, since he was such a good sport in biding his time until Big Sid's could finally welcome him to home plate that I had to opt for this name! The longer I spent getting to know him the more I realized that his appeal goes far beyond his handsomeness; he is a real team player, gets along famously well with the others and is a gentleman in every sense of the word. He is an all around great guy with so much to offer, and since he hasn't a mean bone in his well-muscled, athletically toned 14+ pound body, the only risk of taking him home is that of him stealing your heart!
