Meet GRUMPY

On June 18th, 2013 our sanctuary welcomed two pawsitvely fabulous felines into our sanctuary, Grumpy and Huey, who had been TNR'd through Focus on Ferals:
"Born in the summer of 2009, Grumpy was being fed and sheltered for months by a kind-hearted resident. He looked like hell with his whole body one huge mat and he was constantly fighting with other neighborhood cats. When I  took him in for neuter, I knew he would be FIV. He had a war wound on his face and just had that  look about him. Scrapper no doubt! He earned the nickname Grumpy as he walked around literally grumbling all the time. He had very distinct personal space zone and when other cats overstepped their boundaries, they got a stern warning. He does love people though - just wants them all to himself."
I have to admit, I was pleasantly surprised at just how docile and accommodating with regards to personal space he had become in the time FOF housed him.  In fact, Gina purposely let he and Huey room together in preparation of becoming Sid's Kids, so it all worked out for the best!  Not only did the two chum around together in the intake suite at the clinic, but Grumpy actually became big brother-like, letingt a more shy, subdued Huey tag along for comfort and moral support!
"Huey (who was born right around the same time in the summer of 2009) was living outside a group home in NW Grand Rapids and the residents were feeding him. The home owner said kitty had to go and since the shelter would mean almost certain death for a big un-neutered 'plain' black and white boy, we (FOF) took him in. Sadly he tested positive for feline leukemia. He keeps to himself a bit but that may be because he was housed with Grumpy (a dominant and bossy cat) for the past few months."
Regardless of their viral status and pussycat pecking order, the two seem to get along famously well and the relationship works for them.  Both are gentle, giant-headed boys (you know how I love those!) who are more than thrilled to be living the cushy indoor life!  And Gina was totally right about The Grumpster (a reformed sour puss) being a complete love-bug;  sit on the floor and your lap will be commandeered until he decides to let you up!  And that handsome Huey, who couldn't be sweeter if he tried, won't have to compete for attention with his buddy as we have plenty of volunteers with unlimited love to go around:)  I do think part of his demure demeanor may stem from the fact that his mouth was a hot mess when he arrived, and I had to extract all of his teeth behind his canines.  Now that he is feeling oodles better, I can imagine that he will be one happy camper!
We are so happy to have both boys as part of our family at Sid's, but our ultimate goal is to find each and every one of our cats homes of their very own.  After all these cats have been through prior to their rescue and placement with us, don't you think they deserve that?
